Blender Bros.
Review by Bryan Fury
"No. This Isn't Mario Bros."
Blender Bros is another platformer available for the Game Boy Advance. With games such as Super Mario Advance, Sonic Advance, Rayman Advance, and other, less notable titles not even worth acknowledging, you might be wondering why you should be interested in this game. So I wrote a review.
Story 5/10
A pretty simple story, but it's a platformer, so that's to be expected. From what I could piece together, it's basically about some bad guys called Zooligans who are these animal-human hybrid things, and apparently they're trying to destroy humans. Or enslave them. I'm not really sure. You are one of the cosmic keepers, who are also these weird hybrid things, but the difference between the Zooligans and the Cosmo Keepers is that the Cosmo Keepers are good. Yeah. A real masterpiece. It's really not a good story, even compared to other platforming games, because the story is just kind of...crap. And they never really explain exactly what the hell is going on. Though I never read the instruction manual, so I'm not sure.
Graphics 10/10
The graphics in this game are incredible, and definitely a high-point. The sprites are all beautifully drawn and look almost 3-dimensional, making this title graphically-superior to most platformers available.
Music 8/10
The music is good. It provides the sort of music you'd come to expect from a platformer. A little cutesy at times, but overall good.
Controls 10/10
The controls are simple and easy to understand, perfect for a game of this type, though there are a few abilities that you're provided with for variation.
Challenge 6/10
Pretty easy, so it shouldn't be a problem getting used to it, though it can leave pros desiring a bit more. A hard mode would definitely have helped.
Gameplay 8/10
The unique thing is this game is that you have little things following you around called bros, which provide you with a special ability. You can choose which bro you use at the beginning of each stage, and can change them if you find a special warp point in the area. There are three types of music that you can buy with the money you collect throughout the game, and you can use one of these to try and evolve your bro, which will increase its ability. There are about 20 stages in the game, plus about 5 boss stages, which makes the game probably take a few hours on your first try. There are also has three minigames you can play back at the base if you're interested.
Replay 8/10
Once you beat the game, you can go back to any stage, including boss stages, to play over again, and can play any of the minigames available. You can also collect and power up all the bros in the game, which can be fun.
Overall 8/10
A fun though short game, it's more than worth a look to any Game Boy Advance players who like games like Mario and Sonic titles.
