Klonoa: Empire of Dreams
Review by magiccfoo
"a decent klonoa game?"
When are tecmo going to relies that the fuzzy animal thing was just a craze like pokemon.
Although klonoa might be cool he still is just another phase that in a few years will be tossed aside like the teenage mutant ninja turtles were (and I was a big fan of the turtles, my mom made me a costume).
GAMEPLAY 5/10
The game-play seems fun at first but then quickly tires. Most of the levels contain the same objective and let me tell you that after the third level you’ll be getting just as annoyed as I did, then its just a matter of getting a key, open the door, fight the boss (wow original story telling at its best………….lame). Plus almost all levels have you doing funny monster double jumps that can really get you going if you don’t do it right (and it is hard to do). If you manage to see past the game-play and see the actual story even though it’s a pile of rotten pickle stew, you might find this game to being quite a good side scroller (I think it’s a side scroller).
STORY 6/10
Talk about an original story, It hasn’t changed since the first one came out (well it has but they all followed the same route of completing quests for a king guy who’s to lazing to get of his fat ar…anywhooooo)he has a dream and gets in trouble for having the dream. Sees the king for punishment. King throws a quest at him to complete (again with the quest completing). That sees him going through a heap of worlds. Finishing a sufficient amount of levels in the world will then result in access to the boss of that world. Beat the boss and you can move on to the next world. Kind of like Donkey Kong on the original game boy. Although the story line has its quirks and is a bit weird, you’ll soon grow to admire it. Besides who wouldn’t want to live in a world were dreaming is banned. Anyway what sort of a guy would do the quest? Why not just make a run for their worlds equivalent of Mexico (I should make up story’s, I like story’s).
GRAPHICS 9/10
This is this game shines (for ounce). The graphics are absolutely stunning and all characters are brilliantly modeled, even though they are only 2D, they still look as good.
The worlds and levels are well modeled as well and full of colours that almost burst out of the screen and…..onto……other……stuff. The cutscenes could have been animated instead off just having cutouts, but it still looks good.
Replayability/Difficulty 5/10
Tis has to be one of the easiest klonoa ames ever. The simplistic level design is almost like it telling you that they despertley need new ideas on,level design. Although playing the game for the first time through is fun, every other time you try and finish it will be a chore.
Buy/Rent?
I would definatly recommend renting this game fist. But if you have any other klonoa games this would make a worthy addition to your collection.
