Phantasy Star Collection
Review by jojodontknou
"$30.00 for 3 classic RPGs....it can't be!!!"
I bought this game when it first came out and still haven't seen all the endings for Phantasy Star III! The games last a while and are very tough. If you've played a RPG and didn't like the random battles, then this game is not for you. There are many battles compared to most other RPG's of today.
While this game is great it also has a few downsides to it. One is you will face some very hard bosses in Phantasy Star I. My guys were at level 27 and it took 3 tries to beat the last boss. He is one though *****!
In Phantasy Star II (my favorite of the three) you can get lots of playable characters. For instance you reach the first town next to you and get another character. Yet I didn't know this for a while and went a far way with just two characters :(
In Phantasy Star III you play through three generations of a family. You pick who you want to marry and your kid will be different depending on who you pick. Sounds like fun eh? After you beat it the first time you will force yourself to find out the different ending and it's very boring until you get to the end.
Phantasy Star I Reviews
Gameplay-7
Very simplistic compared to some other video games today. Most RPGs are like that, but not some things in it (Blitz Ball).
Sound-6
Very annoying after 10 minutes of playing it because it is so repetitive like many other things in this.
Story-4
Very unoriginal avenge story. Brother gets killed she goes to kill the king...yada yada yada.
Graphics-7
Considering this game is 15 years old it should get some credit for it's graphics, except for the small characters.
Replay ability-6
There is only one sidequest in this game and they are very important to win.
Phantasy Star II Reviews
Gameplay-8
More easy to control because of the larger characters.
Sound-8
Much better sound than the first Phantasy Star game. There is one bad sound and you will be forced to listen to it, when your player gets attacked. It's some sort of weird beeping noise.
Story-2
The story is not very clear and very dumb, but it's fun.
Graphics-9
These graphics are very excellent for there time. They have bigger characters to make it easier to see. The biggest part is you see yourself attack the enemy!
Replay ability-7
There are more sidequests than the first one. Which isn't very hard at all. Still there's the Laconian items.
Phantasy Star III reviews
Gameplay-7
The controls on this game are simple just like every other RPG.
Sound-4
The worst sound I have ever heard from an RPG game. Unlike today's RPG music there is no orchestra music just little computer sound effects. Oh wait there is orchestra music played by a drunken hobo.
Story-7
This is what makes the game so more enjoyable. You have many cool things happen along the interesting plot.
Graphics-6
Slipped a little here I was expecting more, but got less. The buildings in the game are huge and take up lots of space.
Replay ability-10
If this game had none no one would ever want see it again after playing it. There are so many different endings it might just take a year to see them all. So if you like playing the game then you probably won't buy a new one for a while.
Rent or Buy?
I suggest you buy it just like every other RPG. The reason is you will never get the full game out of it, you won't even beat Phantasy Star I.
