Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel
Review by Master Of Magnetism
"Another excellent GBA Yu-Gi-Oh! game from Konami"
Back again from it's first extremely successful Yu-Gi-Oh! game, The Eternal Duelist Soul, Konami has brought the franchise back to the GBA for the second time. There's a lot of new cards,a few more duelists, and infinite strategies to be found in this sequel of EDS, so lets get started.
Graphics - Everything looks pretty similar to they way they did in EDS. The cards look like their real life counterparts, all of the characters look exactly like they do in the anime, and the backgrounds are nice (though they hardly have any animation). Nothing wrong here.
Score - 9/10
Sound - Once again, similar to EDS. There have been a few new tracks added for the new duelists, but most of the themes have already been heard on EDS. The music is easy to listen to, and at times a bit catchy. The sound effects however, are exactly the ones from EDS, which were excellent to begin with.
Score - 8/10
Story - The plot is made up of the Battle City storyline from the anime. But it doesn't play much of a significant part. It's pretty much the same old formula of going around and dueling opponents.
Gameplay - As the primary focus of this game, the gameplay should be excellent at the very least (don't worry, it is). This game follows the actual rules of the real life card game, so if you already know the rules you should do fine. But even if you don't know the rules, they're simple and easy to learn. There have been about 150+ cards added from the already existing EDS line-up, but some have been taken out (Lord of Dragons and Blast Sphere come to mind). Overall the game is easy to pick up, simple to learn, yet incredibly strategic underneath all of its monster, magic, and trap cards.
Score - 9/10
Replay Value - This is one of those games that keeps you coming back for more. As you go along you unlock new duelists, new booster pack (for reinforcing your deck), and more options. Some of the major fun comes from creating your real life deck in the game, and seeing how it fairs against computer opponents. Also, you'll spend weeks just trying to get every card in the game.
Score - 9/10
Buy or Rent - I doubt you can rent GBA games, but if you have the choice of either I highly suggest you buy it. The 3 promo cards alone are worth the effort to get this game.
Overall - This game is a fantastic sequel to EDS in every way. While it doesn't have much originality, it is still a joy to play. If I were to give a few complaints they would be about the few cards that were taken out and that there are a few glitches in the game. But overall, this game is simply great.
Score - 9/10
