Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel
Review by The OriginaI Metroid
"This is a good game, but it could have been better!"
Overall, this game is pretty much Eternal Duelist Soul, with a wider variety of cards available. Storyline is minimal, if you can call it a storyline, which is a slight improvement from EDS. However, the slight plot details that are present don't really make up for any absences of story that was felt in EDS. Now down to the basics.(I will be making a lot of comparisons to The Eternal Duelist's Soul)
Sound:8/10
Its not bad, but its not new either. This is different from EDS in many ways. The in-game menu music is new, and the music played while you duel is also new. Its not a bad sound, but you won't find yourself turning up the volume either. Its good to listen to, but it does get old eventually.
Graphics:6/10
I was really hoping for something new here. Nothing. The exact same duel format, with the exception of a few typos that were fixed from EDS. Too bad they didn't revamp this to improve that background of dueling, or maybe even put the picture on the card, so you don't have to select ''View Card'' to see its picture.
Card Selection:8.75/10
Lets face it, possibly the most important things you look for in a Yu-Gi-Oh game, or any card game for that matter, is what cards they have available to you. This game really fulfills a lot of desires that EDS gave you. With the addition of a lot of new, and useful cards that weren't available in many older Yu-Gi-Oh games, this area has really improved. However i must say, that they did remove quite a few useful cards, from EDS, which was extremely disappointing.
Storyline:5
Most Yu-Gi-Oh games always leave something to be desired in this section. There is a small story in this game, which involves the Rare Hunters, but nothing outstanding, or spectacular.
Gameplay:8
This is one of the better sections. The rules of the real Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card Game are followed properly, with the exception of a few changes made to the ''Limited/Sub-Limited List'', which were made a little to late to change the game. The speed of the duels has increased as well, because the only way for a Chain to be resolved is if there is a chain in the first place. In EDS, a chain would show up even if only 1 magic/trap card was being activated, here, a chain screen only appears if 2 or more magic/traps are being activated. The use of passwords has also been brought back. This allows players to transfer their Real Life Deck, onto the game.
Replay Value:9
Here is were most Trading Card Games really make it or break it. Lucky for this game, it makes it. With over 1000 Total Cards in the game, there are endless possibilities for you and your deck. I myself have made over 10 different decks, which is a use of about 350 different cards. This game could last you a long time if you really enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh.
Rent or Buy? I say you should rent this game if you enjoyed previous Yu-Gi-Oh video games, but rent it if you are new to the Yu-Gi-Oh World.
