The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Review by cubemario4
"At first I didn't like it."
When I played this game for the first time I thought it was a peice of poo. All you do is hack and slash and collect stuff whoopee! I also had alot of trouble trying to beat the game too because it was too hard. But somehow I learned to like it and I don't know how.
Graphics
The graphics are outstanding in this game some of the best on the GBA although I am sure they could have made the game less blurry. The sprites move great and there isn't many slowdowns in the game. I thought the menus where great in the game. They where clear and they did a good job on the weapons although it would have been nice to see some of the weapons not look the same like every other. I think the weather conditions where done bad because it always is the same animation over and over again and it looks like the rain or snow was always following you.
Sound
The sound was excellent in this game some of the top notch sound on the GBA. The music was great the crys for help when you or the enemys dies it is great. It doesn't matter if something collapses or explodes and breaks it all works out great. One of the sad downs to the sound though is it can only be as good as I say it is if you have headphones. Otherwise the sound is crap.
Game play
There is actually alot more to this game than you think. This game is all about hacking and slashing. What makes the hacking and slashing more in depth is you being able to use different kinds of weapons which vary from bows, swords, axes, and staffs. One of the downers is only certain characters can use certain types of weapons. But it makes up for the variety of weapons you can use in the game. Plus each weapon has their own statistics some would do 2-5 damage and maybe +2 fire damage or something like that. Then there is the skills. Skills are like an ability that a character can do and there is alot of them and each ability is unique from every other character. For example frodo can use the ring and hobbit appetite, while gandalf can use flame of anor and lighting strike. One very interesting thing griptonite added in this game is statistics each character all has the same statistics. These statisics are actually too long to list in this review so I will leave it at that. Another great thing that has been added in this game is the 2-player link mode. If two players have the same cartridge and 2 gameboy advances and one link cable, they can play together and have full exploration to the level.
Replayability
This game has plenty of replayability. There is so many things that can make you keep playing this game like getting the perfect stats, weapons, skills, and anything else that is in this game to get. And if you get bored by playing this all by yourself you can always find another friend to play this game with you.
Story
This game has a great story but if you didn't see the movie and read the book you will have a hard time of knowing whats going on. If you are at all intrested in the story than that is what I recommend you do.
Buy or Rent
If you still aren't sure if you want to try this game out then just rent it because this game isn't for everybody. But if you think you will enjoy this game alot then I reccomend you buy it.
