X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse

"X-Men Reign of Apocalypse is addicting and fun. However its a Rental Game."

My friend Nate and I would waste hours (and quarters) on the large X-Men Arcade machines. This is not quite as detailed, cost more, and there are fewer characters to choose from.

Story: 6/10
This is the old stumble into another dimension bit where some good x-men are bad and some bad x-men are good. Only one being could be powerful enough to damage the threads of time and space… APOCALYSPE! You fight all over the globe from the streets of France to the Blue Side of the Moon. The story however is poorly told in a comic book style. You may think its because they are trying to keep it authentic, but authentic or not I don’t like it.

Gameplay: 8/10
X-Men Reign of Apocalypse is addicting and fun. Its easy to beat which might draw away some potential buyers. I beat the game the first time I played with annoyed me. However there is a very handy save feature. The simple controls consist of super moves, hard hit, lighter/faster hit and are easy to adapt to. The levels can become tedious if you don’t enjoy games like Streets of Rage. You can choose between 4 popular x-men characters of Wolverine, Storm, Rogue or Cyclops… There are about 12 levels and with each level is a boss or a sub-boss and a boss. Yes you even have to fight Gambit and Beast. A great aspect of this game is the point system. You earn points to which you can attribute to your character to make him or her stronger.

Graphics: 7/10 - The graphics are done moderately well for each of the many many many x-men characters in this game. Pyro was rendered meticulously as was Apocalypse however the graphics were lacking on the Wolverine and NightCrawler models.

Sound/Music: 2/10
I turned the sound off however the “FX audio” was half-decent. Repetitive noises in music and attacks are not welcome, luckily that doesn’t matter much in a game to me.

Buy or Rent?
Rent this game because it only takes about a day to beat it (it is enjoyable for that one day).

Overall: 6/10
This game is enjoyable for a short period of time. I did like the character points system that allowed you to improve you character. If you’re a fan of {beat em up’ side scrollers} then try this game out. If you’re not a fan… then stay away. If you do play the game, you’ll find my walkthrough very helpful ;)
