Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel
Review by telefono
"Good Game, to easy"
Well Yu-Gi-Oh is the new sensation on the world. Unlike Pokemon YuGiOh is here to stay! The game is kind of cool, but not awesome.
Story
6/10
The story starts out with you dueling in battle city and your job is simply to collect cards. The beginning is really disappointing and boring. As you advance in the game it gets a little more interesting, because you unlock new characters which provide you with a new challenge. The story is still kind of dull and it would have been better if they were to add a new twist here and there.
Sound
8/10
The sound effects are pretty neat. Each duelist you face has a different theme song which adds variation to the game, there is also special tunes when you win or lose. The sound effects aren't excellent quality but they are pretty sweet for a card game.
GamePlay
8/10
The game play of the game is really neat because you get to face all of the duelist that are in the TV show.. Kaiba, Yugi, Tea, Tristan, Joey, etc. Sometimes while you are playing you feel that you are in the show dueling. The cards are all the same as they are in real life, and as you advance in the game you will start collecting more cards; eventually you will have every card in the game! This allows you to build any strategy you want. At the beginning of the game you get a crappy deck but each time you win a duel you get 5 more cards, so in order to get better you have to win. Another good aspect of the game play is that the characters in the video game have a very similar deck as they do in the TV show. Another cool aspect is that you are allowed to have a side deck, so that you can boost up your deck in between duels.
I would have liked the gameplay a little bit more if they would have made it like the Pokemon games. What I mean is that I would have found it more interesting if you could go around walking in battle city and challenging opponents
Challenge
6/10
At the beginning I have to admit that the game was kind of hard because you have some really bad cards. However as you advance in the game you start getting better and better until you become practically invincible. So after you have played the game a lot it becomes to dumb because you have to do the same thing over and over again. The challenge just becomes stupid. It would have been fun if you could unlock a hard mode or something similar so that you could have a much better challenge.
Replay Value
5/10
As I have said before the game looses all of its challenge when you become better. Also you sometimes reach a point that you know every character perfectly and you know exactly what he is going to do, so its almost impossible to loose. The game becomes practically useless unless you have a friend. If you have a friend you can play using link cable, and this is really cool. Having a friend to play with opens up a whole lot of new opportunities.
In conclusion I would like to say that you should borrow this game from a friend, or rent it, don't buy it. Another thing that I would like to say is that the show is much better than the game. I wish that they make a decent PS2 Yu-Gi-Oh game, not like duelist of the roses.
