Digimon Battle Spirit 2
Review by dense
"They made improvements from the original, but this isn't enough for this game...."
Yep, that’s right they brought out a sequel, yes it's not much different from the first, but i like it. Why? Because I like Digimon season 4. I but haven't actually seen the latest season. I gave this one a try after playing the first. This is an improvement on it, but still there are some things that could have been smoothed out...
Story
Well basically there isn't a story, But what’s bad about that? From what i know about season 4 the digimon tamers change into digimon and you fight each other beating your opponent by collecting more 'Spirit' than him. Wow! Ok not very original i must admit but that wouldn't make me put this game back on the shelf. In the game you beat six other digimon and end up fighting an evil very big, digimon called Kerpymon. I have alot of difficulty defeating him but when you finally beat him you feel glad and its alot easier to beat him next time around. Not very original but its worth an 8/10
Gameplay
Well I think it is alot better than the first! There are two new concepts of digivolving in this game, instead of waiting for a digimon to digivolve you, you can digivolve yourself. Well not exactly, When you get the opportunity to, you can 'Slide digivolve' so that when you attack you actually change into a completely different digimon and use an attack on your opponent. Sadly this only lasts for about 30 seconds before it wears off. There is also an opportunity to 'Ancient Digivolve'. When you attack your opponent you sometimes make them drop little brown gems, if you collect five of these gems you get to Digivolve into a very powerful form of your character and use a really cool attack alot like a special move. The problem with this is that it is quite hard to get into a position to use the attack and if you miss you must collect another five gems! Alot better than the first, i prefer this option than the old one - 9.5/10
Music
A bit of a let down really, it sounds like something from a Gameboy color game not a GBA game. The boss music is great. The sounds that a character makes when it hits an opponent is OK but they could have made it better. It's a shame really if they had spruced this element up just a bit this game would have done alot better than it did. A bit better than the first but nothing new - 8/10
Graphics
Well you can't expect much considering its for the GBA i have no real complaints about it although they could have made an improvement on the first game. Not bad really but nothing to really make you want to jump hoops for either...
6.5/10
Replay Value
I'm quite impressed with this aspect actually. There are a few characters to unlock and there is also a mini game called digimon shoot, which kinda reminds me of marbles. There is also the challenge of getting hi-scores but you need very high scores to unlock the characters, so this is pretty much boring... 8/10
Buy/Rent
Rent, I had to import my version from Australia and i'm not particularly sure it was such a good idea, i liked the first so i had to give this game a fair chance. Hopefully the next instalment will be alot better!
