Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu
Review by Wazzupo
"Webfoot needs to be killed...."
Let me make this clear before we begin, I am an avid fan of the Oringal Japanese Dragon ball Z. I love it when a game is made off the series but this is a pitiful excuse for a game. Dragon Ball Z:Taiketsu is a poor game. When I herd a DBZ GBA fighter was in the works, I jumped in joy. I know now that that jump was in vain.
Gameplay (3) - The gameplay in this game goes down as one of the worst GBA fighters. The four attacks buttons do nothing more then the same move over and over again. Linking combo attacks is damn near impossable due to the fact that, even on easy, the computer blocks over half the attacks. Speical attack are confusing and annoying to pull off. After about an hours worth of playing I still didn't know any speicals. Gameplay modes make this even worse. With no story mode the game gets old quick(Unless there is a hidden one). The controls feel slopy along with the game which feels rushed out and/or as if it were to make a quick dollor.
Graphics (3) - The Graphics are also horrable. Each fighter is made up of blocky 3D/2D sprits that look jagged and goofy. Many of the fighters are nowhere near close to their Anime counterparts. I didn't know that Krillian's head was bigger then most of Goku's body. To make things worse the Enviroments have little to no detail to then and look just as bad, if not worse, then the fighters.
Sound/Music (1) - The sound in this game is HORRABLE. Background music is lame and dull and does not protray that of a DBZ fight. Charater selecting screen has no music behind it, and all the sounds the fighters make is no more then one or two grunts... Thats it ONE OR TWO. Hits and the such also only have ONE OR TWO sounds to go along with em, which is a pity because the game make no try at protraying the sounds, grunts, and music that the show is famuos for.
Play Time/Replayability (1) - You have to take in the account the gameplay here. With such crapy gameplay you don't even want to bother getting thruough the game more then once. The extra unlockables are, for the most part, quite stupid. Nobody wants a picture of Vegeta SSJ2. They want him as a Playable charater. On the subject of charaters this game lacks. Guilty Gear X Advance and Street fighter Alpha 3 came out for the GBA like a year or more ago and those games have more fighters then this ever does. There is 2-Player but with such crappy gameplay why would anyone try having a serious match in this game.
Overall DBZ Taiketsu is one of those games that you wait for and then it seems like a real letdown once you get it. Webfoot, as seen from this game, dosent care about making a game GOOD before they release it. Please pass this one on by.
