Yu Yu Hakusho: Spirit Detective
Review by shouviks
"Another boring, short, and unattractive anime game"
Lately, a ton of Japanese cartoons or anime have been made into video games. Some like Legacy of Goku 2, are alright. Others just didn't make that certain fun requirement like Yu Yu Hakusho. Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the best animes around. It's sad to see that such animes go down the drain with video games like these.
Story
The story starts off with the main character, Yusuke Urameshi, a punk kid who gets in trouble often and picks fights. However Yusuke shows a kind streak and gives up his life for a kid who is about to get run over by a car. Then he finds the grim reaper named Botan. The game will go into the basic storyline of the anime. However, the story doesn't go far and really doesn't show all the feelings of the characters like in Golden Sun or Fire
Emblem.

Presentation
The game is very simple. Story mode, an unlockable here or there, sound adjust. The menu screen is not that great either. The levels are pretty small and there just isn't enough ''oomph!'' in the game for it to be great.

Graphics
Playing with mud would look better than this game. There is no sense of effort, whatsoever. The characters are rough looking clay figures, the attacks are very boring to the eye, and the landscape looks unfinished.

Sound
The music is fine... for the first twenty seconds of the game when you first hear it. Then it just keeps looping. Having more original music would have been much better that what this game came up. Also the sound effects in the game could be improved greatly. The only real sound effect you hear is the word ''ugh''. Also the attack sounds like Kuwabara's Spirit Sword could have been made to hear the swish of a sword but all you really hear is a knock.

Gameplay
The gameplay is quite simple as well. A for a regular attack. Three A's for a simple combo. R and A for special and so on. For the main part, the game is go from point A to point B, kill enemies and boss, repeat. Sometimes they'll get you to collect stuff. Also when they say you get to play as six characters, they mean four characters and some walking around with the other two characters. Killing enemies is just mashing buttons until they die. Very boring.

Lasting Appeal
This game will take you a maximum of three days. You'd most likely finish the game once to see how it ends. Then there is few a unlockable things that you might want to do. Then this game would sit there for the rest of eternity.

Overall Rating 2/10
Don't rent it. Don't buy it. Just don't think about playing this game ever. The fans of Yu Yu Hakusho might want to try it. Once. If you get this game as a gift look for a return or a trade-in for store credit. This game was a great disappointment to me. I hope such a game is never seen by society again.
