Metroid: Zero Mission

Review by link master500

"Another Metroid game."

At last, the Metroid game that fans have been waiting for is here. Ok, so heres the story... Well, actaully This game is just a retelling of the first Metroid game. Well, guess that's where they got the name for it. Metroid Zero Mission. Now your probably saying ''Not another port.'' right? Well fans, you need no worry as this is not just an ordinary port that Nintendo has been making since the release of Gameboy Advance. This port has advance graphics, and fixed up spots that seemed impossible in the first game of this series.

Ever since the series started, it always had a boss that looks nothing more, but a bad ass. In a good way though. This bad ass character is Ridley. He's a space dragon. Wonder how they came up with that? Probably because it sounds cool.

This game when first played is just like the first game. You get transported to the planet Zebes's underground. You will be underground a lot. Anyways, you go to the left to collect your first item that has been always in every single Metroid game. Fans should know this.

The graphics are wonderful, they did a lot since the early stages. It used to look comic style in the alpha stages. It has changed though to make it look really nice. The character and enemy designs are amazing. It's not as dull as it used to be in the first game. This is probably because of the 8 bit in that old Nintendo system.

The first game was very long if you didn't know your because of the lack of map which can be fun. Now look at Zero Mission. They give you a map plus they give you the exact location to go first. HUH!?!? Since when did the first game had a map? This letted everyone down to see that Zero Mission was going to be like Fusion. Even I was let down, but that didn't stop me from buying it.

Zero Mission has seven areas to explore, you will explore some of the past areas in Metroid and Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo. Each has lots of upgrades to get if you want a 100%. Also, they added a new area in this game. Very good on this.

The difficulty in Zero Mission really easy. The bosses patheticly easy, not to mention the enemies. This what you would think the first time right? If you try to do a low percent run, you will die and die a lot of times. Sometimes, it's best if you stop playing if your getting your butt kicked. The bosses are now not what you thought in the first place. They will now kill you many times which is frustration. Oh, and when you get to Ridley, be prepared for a lot of stress.

The game also features the Original Metroid game in the options screen. The 8 bit goodness is back. Oh the sweet 8 bit goodness.

Now, the boss design is real good. That monster Kraid in the Original Metroid used to be small and really, really hard. Now they lowered it and made it much bigger like that guy in Super Metroid. Oh yeah, he's easy in this. The mini bosses are perfect too. The boss that I said that was a bad ass is way to easy if your doing a normal run, even easier than the Original one that was said to be the easiest boss ever. Despite that, Ridley has some interesting moves that are quite nice.

Right, back to the original Metroid. This game was first release for the Nintendo. The graphics were amazing for a 8 bit game. The game itself was challenging. Instead of refilling your health in just one move, you have to get health the old way. Kill the enemies. The difficulty is really really high that it makes you want to smash your gameboy from frustration. Bomb jumping couldn't get any worse. Is it supposed to be hard to fricken bomb jump. It like works against you when you are in the air. Secret areas are here in this game to. Sometimes the walls can break when you shoot them, or you can just go right through it. These usaully lead to upgrades that will be helpful. So it's a good idea to look everywhere.

Right, now thats done, I should of done this in the beginning of the review. The storyline.

Metroid Zero Missions storyline is just a quick thought up story that a 12 year old kid can do. Basicly, you have to destroy every Metroids on Zebes. Metroids are these jelly fish kind of things that suck up energy from any living thing. Spooky huh? When you first get on with the game, you probably expect a Metroid coming at you right? Well get this, they are all in Tourain which is a short level. It also said to destroy Mother Brain. Also in Tourain. Well what do you know, you get to the main storyline when you almost done with the game. There is also another part after you are done that isn't even in the storyline at all. Probably just to surprise you. Now lets compare it to Metroid. Metroid's storyline isn't that much different from Zero Missions story line. So lets just leave that.

There are also different kinds of endings you can get if you beat the game in a specific time period or percentage of items collected. This adds lots of replay value into the game as you can play over and over until you got them all. They are nice pictures too. Those pictures will be saved in the gallery if you want to look at them again.

Overall, the game is fun to play if your a fan of the series so I give it a 7 out of 10. Yeah, and if you don't find it that interesting, this game will not be for you as you will not be pleased. But if your a fan and are interested in it, give it a shot and have fun.
