Donkey Kong Country
Review by cloudrules
"A good remake but..."
My review:
donkey Kong country was a great Snes game I played back in the day... It was always fun to try and get those bananas from K. rule, throw some barrels, and my favorite part was when you were in the mine cart. Now this game comes out remade for game boy advanced and all I can say is... what happened to the sound? I'm not saying it's bad or anything it just sounded way different from the Snes version and that was the problem for me.
Sound 4/10
I recently played the Snes version of this game since my little brother was using my Snes... thought I might play it one last time before I got the remake. That was a mistake. When I finally got this game on game boy advanced the music sounded... weird... and some of the sound fx were changed and not for the better... for example... I mean come on they used donkey Kong country 2 sounds for switching the Kongs....not that it's bad but I miss the high 5 and then a monkey sound. Aside from it sounding weird compared to the Snes version the sound wasn't so bad. It's good sound for game boy game at least so I'm done complaining...moving on...
Story 8/10
Ok ok so the story wasn't that great but here is why I gave it an eight. Well back then a game was lucky to have a good story... or a story at all... for when the game was made it was not that bad. A bad guy steals your bananas and sets up obstacles, levels and everything before you can get them back. I play this game for playing it any ways so moving on....
Game play/graphics 10/10
I really like the way this game looks... even today. I mean if you look at some of the Snes games this game is awesome. The backgrounds the bad guys the way everything runs so smoothly together and since it was made in the 16 bit era how can you say this is bad? I say it's pretty awesome. For playing the game some changes were made that I did not like. When you get a bonus barrel it doesn't blast you off to no ware anymore... now it just teleports you to the bonus... That's not enough to give it a nine instead but it would of been nice to have that. As for the mini games they added now... The dance game doesn't work for me I press the button at the right time or what appears to be the right time but i get a miss and i have not tried fishing yet. The time trials are not that bad but I could only do the first level fast so... lol. It plays great like the old game but with a few added things that I don't see why you need them but I'll take anything I can get.
Controls/portable 10/10
I just combined these two since I'm controlling wile its portable.. simple enough any ways. The controls are great you press a button and hit a direction and you do that function. There is no lag in the controls and holding b while jumping makes you go farther. Classic controls that work for me. Now for the portable part. I'm always moving... going some ware so being able to take a great game with me and being able to save after levels (newly added since it runs on batteries) It makes playing this game a lot funner.
Final thoughts...
Ok so it's one of my favorite Snes games made portable but with not as great sound. What can I say? I say I can live with the sound and playing this game never gets old. If you want to buy or rent this game here is what I say. If you can't live with the sound being Weird because you played Snes recently enough rent it or borrow it from a friend then buy it if you like. If you can live with the sound or never played donkey country then I say get this game what are you waiting for?! game stop is open most of the day get there now!
My scores
4 ~ Sound
8 ~ Story
10 ~ Game play/graphics
10 ~ Controls/portable
final score
8 (not average)
Hope this helped someone on deciding to get the game
