"What kind of a wrestling game is this..?"

Don't get me wrong: I like wrestling games. I bend over backwards to find anything good with a wrestling game. But this is utter garbage. I see nothing at all good about this game.

Gameplay 1/10

Geez, the controls are horrid. The only move you are assured of doing is a punch, and its barely visible. Power bombs are a rarity because of the crummy controls. It doesn't have link play or custom-character option. The only thing good about it is that you get to play as 40 classic wrestlers, but they walk like stiff robots and share a lot of common moves. They don't even wear the correct outfits. Most of them wear tights, anyway. A very bad aspect of this game. Stare at the excitement sign at the back of the ring for better gameplay than this. They oughtta bring that into the ring...

Sound 3/10

The background music is horrible, but the Referee's speech effects are great. Still, I don't think that ALL of the space on the cartridge was used for that. The sound could have been a lot better. The grunts and groans also sound great, but I would groan just like that as well if I got punched with a deformed pixelated hand. The crowd has good reason to cheer when something exciting happens...or maybe they are just staring at the sign denoting what should be happening in the ring.

Graphics 4/10

Here's where the game exceeds to great lengths. The wrestlers faces are unrecognizable and the ring looks like it was crudely drawn with only 4 different colors of crayons. All the wrestlers look overweight. The arms look like polygons and there are parts when it looks like parts of the character is dissappearing. The game allows little space for the hair and is barely visible from still screenshots. The bodies being tossed around also look great at the rate of the abysmal production values. The shading looks perfect, but is too light to see in battle, if you call the single-player mode fun. The joints look perfect on the wrestlers.

Multiplayer 0/10

What??! No multiplayer? That's impossible, but it's true. There is no multiplayer, but I guess that they guessed that you wouldn't play multiplayer since this game is abysmal.

Overall Score 2/10

Even with the sub-par graphics, this game deserves a 1/10. That extra 1 is very generous. The lack of multiplayer hurts this game. A LOT.

Buy or Rent? Avoid.

Avoid and buy any other wrestling game. Although it has an awesome selection of characters, that is no reason to play it. ( It's awesome 'cause its on a cartridge.)
