Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2004
Review by Cybernetic Fury
"I summon...a mediocre sequel?"
Yu-Gi-Oh: World Tournament Championship 2004 is a good game for fans of the series and games to just practice their skills and such, but under the fancy looking game cover, it's not too pretty. It's a sequel to the much-liked Yu-Gi-Oh: Worldwide Edition, but doesn't seem too mighty...
DIFFICULTY - 6/10: The difficulty is moderate, but the AI opponents are as dumb as ever. For instance, they'll summon a strong monster like, let's say, Empress Mantis and it happens to be stronger then any monster you have on the field. Then the opponent activated Torrential Tribute and wipes out all his defense leaving him wide open for an attack next turn. Very disappointing...
STORYLINE/PLOT - 0/10: There is none. None whatsoever. Unlike it's predecessor, this game allows you to duel...an that's it.
GRAPHICS - 8/10: This game has exceptional graphics. The character models look almost exactly the cartoon characters, and the cards look realistic too. And there is a whole new display for creating a deck. The backgrounds inside the duels are alright. They differ with the difficulty (rank) of the opponent.
SOUND - 9/10: Yet another strong point in this game, the sound is magnificent and much better then Worldwide Edition. The music is better in some ways, but lacks the happiness of the previous game's music. When you summon a card, the classic sword-drawing noise (SHHHING!) isn't there anymore, yet a better suiting, more magical sound (WHEERO) or something like that. I have to say that the sound is overall the best quality of the game.
GAME-PLAY - 7/10: This is where some of the downsides of the game start to slip in. The speed of each duel is terribly slow, but this can be fixed. There is a character selection screen, but as I mentioned earlier, there is no storyline. You unlock duelists and booster packs by accomplishing a certain in-game goal whether it's having at least one Jinzo in your Trunk not your hand, or opening five Blue-Eyes White Dragon booster packs. The rock, paper, scissors format is gone, so the game randomly picks who goes first. A good quality of this game is that there is over 1,000 new cards.
FUN FACTOR - 10/10: This game will last you for quite a while until it eventually gets boring. However, collecting each card in the game is an inspiring goal.
REPLAY FACTOR - 0/10: This game doesn't have a storyline, so it doesn't have a finish point either. So therefor, you just keep on playing for ever and ever...
OVERALL - 7/10: This game may have many strong advantages against Worldwide Edition, but has just as many losses as well. I suggest you try this game to see if you like it. If you are a hard-core Yu-Gi-Oh fan, than you should like it. If not, try Worldwide Edition.
