Worms World Party
Review by Mysterious_Bob
"Great idea... poorly pulled off."
Worms on the GBA. What a great idea. The conversion would work perfectly. The GBA has the graphical power to do it. What could possibly go wrong? This...
The worms series is one of my favourite game series. When I found this game I just had to buy it. First impressions were great. Appearance-wise there is nothing wrong with it at all. You only discover what's wrong with it until you start actually playing it.
GRAPHICS
The games only good point. The game looks exactly like it does on the PC. Yes, there's the odd animation missing but only truly hardcore worms fans should notice anything like that. The tiny screen works surprisingly well fitting all he action in.

SOUND
Oh dear. The music is very repeative, that's if you can even call the strange moaning music. There is only the 'English' language pack but this obviously can't be helped considering the limits in memory on the cartridge. The SX are still good which may bring back a few memories. Could be worse.

GAMEPLAY
This is where the game screws up royal. A good old fashioned worms veteran would know that dynamite cause a maximum of 75 points of damage. If the victim worm is further away from the blast, the less damage it will do. Not in this game. In this game as long as the worm is in the blast they will suffer a seemingly random amount of damage. It's the same for all weapons particularly with cluster weapons. The land has some crazy physics. These are only small bugs but they're in large numbers practically destroying the game. A worms newbie might get away without noticing this but it's still a poor game. You cannot create teams. You can't even rename the CPU teams. I found this particually annoying as creating teams with funny names then killing them is one of the best things about worms. There is a mission mode which is a tad screwy but in the end it works relatively OK. All the missions are already unlocked because there isn't a save feature.
2/10
OVERALL
This game puts the Worms series to shame. It's clearly a quickly made port to make a bit of extra cash. The idea of worms on the GBA is excellent if only they took it more seriously. I would have given this game 2/10 but it's still a good idea so it gets and extra point.
