"The Shoryuken: Now Available in Portable Form!"

Street Fighter 2 was a revolutionary game that helped boom the Arcade Business and Fighting Game genre. Then Capcom made more additions, such as Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition, Super Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and even Hyper Street Fighter 2, release long after. This is basically a port of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. How does it stand the test of time, and how can you make Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo using only Four Main Buttons? Find out in this review.

1.) Graphics

I found these graphics to be above SNES quality, but a bit below Arcade level. The menu interface has been changed, and so has the Select Fighter Screen. The Character Sprites are missing a few frames of animation, but a few frames isn't gonna kill you. Some fighter's attack animations have just plain been ported from other games (Ken's new Fierce Kick, Guile's new Fierce Kick).

The Backgrounds also have went through some changes. You SF3: Third Strike players will notice Ryu has his BG from Third Strike. Some characters, like Chun Li, have their Street Fighter Alpha Backgrounds. Some have minor additions, such as Zangief. And some fighter's Backgrounds have just plain been replaced (M. Bison, Ken). Anyway you put it, these backgrounds look just plain cool. A gripe that I have is that some of the backgrounds (Fei Long, Dhalsim) have been darkened, and that's not cool. Despite some flaws, Capcom did a good job in this category, even for just a port.

2.) Sound

In this part, Music and Sound FX are put into one category. Anyways, the sound is first. Some of the sounds sound (darn puns) like the quality was a tad lowered, and could have been clearer. But even after all these years, a Shoryuken sounds like a Shoryuken, Yoga Flame sounds like Yoga Flame, and Sagat's “TIGER! TIGER! TIGER!” is still annoying. Most of the sounds are memorable. After you play this game, you'll recognize every single sound, and describe what it is. Trust me.

On to the Music. The Music was victimized in this port. It sounds like it could have been done on the Original Game Boy. Most of the tunes are still recognizable, and some have been screwed up (M. Bison's, Vega's). You eventually get used to it though. It's a shame they didn't have a Sound Test in this game, I actually liked some of the Music as it is.

3.) Gameplay

The most important part of a game. The Gameplay, if you pick it up for the first time, feels completely awkward, so go to Training Mode first. Now for all you vets out there, the Gameplay will take some adjustment to get used to. You have the 3 Kicks and 3 Punches, but how do you fit them onto a System with 4 Buttons? Well, Capcom decided to make the A Button and B Button timing sensitive, for the Jab and Strong attacks, which means combos will already be harder to do even before you play. I didn't like it at all at first, but once I got the timing windows right, I stopped complaining.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival uses Capcom's original Street Fighter 2 engine, so you already know this game is going to be fun. It goes something like this: You face 8 (Or 12 I think) fighters in 2 out of 3 Round Matches, then 3 Sub-Bosses, then The Main Boss, Bison. Sure, it sounds like an unoriginal system on paper, but when playing it, it's actually worth playing again and again.

SSF2TR adds New Modes to flare out from the usual “Hey, I want to play the same mode over and over and over again, until the battery runs out”, so everyone can have fun. The 2 new modes are Survival and Time Attack. Survival has several different modes, including one mode where you have to beat 100 people in a row (you get some health back after beating 1 opponent)! Those modes are timed, so if you're bored or want to beat your best time, play this mode a lot. Time Attack, I shouldn't even have to go into a discussion about. These 2 modes add major points to the Replayability factor!

Also, to add EVEN MORE Replayability, is the Points System, and Unlockable Characters and an Unlockable Art Gallery.
