Yu-Gi-Oh! Destiny Board Traveler
Review by dotsdfe
"Bleh. Try to avoid it."
Introduction - This is a game that you probably should not buy, unless you are an extremely avid Yu-Gi-Oh fan. It is a fair pick-up-and-play game, for playing for a few minutes at a time. Also, something a bit strange is that there is only one single player mode. You turn on the game and choose single player, it goes straight to the character selection screen.
Gameplay - This game really doesn't have much interaction At all. Mostly, you just roll dice and choose cards, and watch your character move around the board. The boards are all small, and really lack detail. This game can, at points, seem like Mario Party without the minigames, wacky boards, or the fun.
There is no editing decks, or getting booster packs, or anything. This is a huge disappointment , when compared to previous Yu-Gi-Oh games. All decks are pre-made, and aren't really that great.
The game also suffers from a poor character selection. There are a few newly added characters, however, there are several duelists missing that were in previous titles. More characters could've helped the game A bit. However, some important characters who are missing (Most notably Tristan and Tea) are completely unacceptable.
Story - Ok, there is absolutely NO story. No character dialogue, minus a bit of voice acting when you choose a character, which is a short phrase.
Some previous Yu-Gi-Oh titles have had stories, others at least have characters that talk to you when you duel them. This? None at all.
Graphics - Ok, I have to admit, the graphics in this game are pretty good For the most part. The characters(though there are some missing ) all look good, with a fair amount of detail.
The maps, however, do lack detail, which makes them feel really plain and pretty uninspired They're really all just squares with backgrounds slapped on them.
Sound - The sound is pretty good, and matches the feel of the game, for the most part. There is a bit of voice acting when you select a character, but, as mentioned earlier, it's only one short phrase.
Play time - This game is really short, seeing as there is no story. You can make the star count high to make it last for a while, but at that point, it really feels repetitive and gets boring. I really find that it's best to put the star count low, to make it last short, so that it doesn't get too old, too fast.
Replayability - Counting replayability on this would be unfair. Why? Since, if you want to play any more than one round ever, you will end up replaying it over, and over, and over. Unless, of course, you get bored with it within 2-3 games.
Final recommendation - I really can't recommend this, unless Yu-Gi-Oh is your life, and you want to play ever single game in the series and collect every single card. Otherwise, I say that you should just avoid it.
