Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge
Review by PS2Joey
"Mega Man, this time with chips."
Introduction
Mega Man, the little blue guy with the blaster is back, this time with chips. In this game you will have to use chips to defeat your opponents which is actually quite cool. You have to win a tournament, buy chips, update your deck, and repeat. After you pass all of the tournaments in a class you upgrade to the next one. Then, when you beat all of the tournaments you beat the game. That is how you play this game.
Graphics
This game looks pretty good. The net navis look just as they do in the cartoons. The battle arenas don't look too great but the problem is that the arena rarely changes, which is kind of boring. The attacks look okay but there aren't much to them. Overall, this game looks fairly decent.
Sound
The sound in this game is pretty good. I like the music when you are fighting, it is very good and catchy. When you attack, you can tell if you shoot, slash, etc., they all sound different. The music in the cut scenes is good too. I like the sound in this very much.
Story
The story line in this game varies depending on who you choose in the beginning. All of them have something to do with defeating the bad guys and kicking them out of the tournament, though. The story line isn't that deep and you may wind just skipping the cut scenes because it isn't that interesting.
Game Play
Game play wise, this game is good. There are tons, of chips to collect. There are the regular chips like the healing, attacking, and other types of chips you can collect. Then there's the net navi chips. These are the different people you can be. Each one has there own HP, MB, and AP. HP is how much damage you can withstand. MB is how many chips you can have in your program deck. And AP is how much damage you can do with your net navis special attack. With all of these chips, there's a lot of different combinations to make.
Making your deck can be very confusing. The deck is set up kind of like an arrow. In the first row you put two chips, in the second row there are three, then four in the third row. In battle, one chip from the first row will be randomly chosen, then one from the second row that is next to the first, then one from the last row. You have to make sure you put your chips in a good order if you want to win. There are also L and R chips. You can use these at any time, but the longer you wait to use them, the more they are likely to work. As you can see, this is a very strategic game.
In battle, you win by depleting all of your opponents health. After the chips are selected you will each take turns attacking each other. Also, you can get the upper hand by destroying your opponents chips with your own. If you destroy more of your opponents chis they will attack less. Learning attacking combinations is the key to winning the match.
Replay Value
You might want to beat this game a couple of times with different characters but it may get repetitive.
Final Recommendation
If you are a fan of these kind of games then you should buy this game, but you may want to borrow it from someone if you can because it will not last more then a couple of weeks.
