Mech Platoon
Review by badmonkey715
"Solid, but nothing spectacular."
Well, what's the best way to start this review? I guess I should probably start by saying that since this game was made for a portable system, one shouldn't expect a RTS game similar to what you would see on the PC and more powerful consoles, but it's an alright game, even if it's nothing new.
Graphics: 6/10 There's nothing really good or bad to say about the visuals in this title. It doesn't push the capabilities of the GBA to any limits, but you can clearly see everything and telling the difference between the units is never a problem.
Sound: 4/10 It's not horrible, but nothing that's really exciting either. I've played the game recently, and I can't remember any of the audio, for the soundtrack and sound effects aren't really memorable at all.
Story:6/10 The plot line isn't really anything that I personally found exciting, but then again, I'm not a huge fan of science fiction (even though that genre does make for some good games), so you should probably get another opinion on this one.
Play Control 7/10 If you know how to play a RTS game, you'll know how to play this one. The menus are clear and easy to navigate, and the learning curve is pretty much what it should be for a game of this genre.
Gameplay 7/10 This is the only RTS game I've ever beaten, so I guess that it's safe to say that it's also the easiest (that I've played). The main limiting factor of this game is that you can only have 30 units on the field at any given time. Again, this is a portable, so it's reasonable to assume the game cannot handle too many units, but 30 is not a lot of room to work with. Then again, it doesn't matter, for the enemies don't tend to put up much of a fight.
Replay Value 6/10 This game gives you a number of reasons to keep playing after you beat the game, including multiple sides of the conflict you can choose from, and parts you can collect to create new units. However, the lack of challenge can get pretty stale after a while.
All in all, it's an alright game, and it is most certainly worth trying out, but the lack of any real challenge may be a problem to some of the more skilled gamers.
