Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel
Review by commiesk
"A great sequel that lives up to the name Megaman"
After going through a rough time, Capcom has made a triumphant return with the newest sequel. Megaman Battle Network 5: Team of Colonel has some new additions, that will be stated later in the review. But before you read the review, give Capcom a nice round of applause, even if you haven't played the game yet.
Graphics: 9/10
Capcom has decided to continue their new stream of graphics and new arrangement of the neighborhood. However, you may realize how much better the cut scenes are, especially the cut scene for jacking in. As always, the battle graphics and enemies are exceptional. The graphics seem to be in good proportion unlike previous games. However, the non-network or Internet areas are too bland and repetitive.
Game play: 10/10
Wow. Just wow. The battles live up to the name Megaman. Capcom has added a new element into the game, and it is called a liberation mission. What you have to do is try to "liberate" an area under the influence of the evil organization. I'll leave teaching the basics to you to Colonel (gee, I wonder where I have heard that before....) or Protoman, depending on which version you get. You will get to control navis other than Megaman, so all you fan boys of certain other navis will get your wish, and maybe more. Capcom has continued the soul system, with a new twist! The balance between light and dark was unbalanced, but now, you will be able to use dark chips without any loss. I won't spoil the new event concerning dark chips for you. The game has a barrage of new navis, as well as many returning ones. The navis, whether you love them or hate them, will make the game play better.
Story: 8/10
Internet in danger! World in danger! Well, if it wasn't in danger, it wouldn't be interesting. Guess who's back!! And he has a cool new goatee!! One clue, it's not WWW. The liberation missions add to the story. You have to save the regions owned by the evil Nebula. That's right, you guessed it, well, I hope you guessed it. Battle Network 5 brings new elements to the plot that have in no way been used in other games, except in Battle Network 3, but that was not exactly the same.
Sound/Audio: 6/10
There were two songs I liked particularly. The title song and the song for a certain area's roaming song. The other songs were satisfactory, but didn't really stand out.
Overall: 8.25/10 rounded to 8/10
Contrary to common belief, Battle Network 4 was not bad, but Battle Network 5 was a great improvement. It lives up to the name of Megaman and Capcom. This game proves Capcom is not lazy. This is definitely a game worth buying, especially if you have played any other Battle Network game.
