Tiny Toon Adventures: Wacky Stackers
Review by J J N
"Oh my good, fun!"
I think I should carefully review this game so I don't come off as a goofy person, because Tiny Toon: Wacky Stackers is one of the most fun yet elementary games I ever played for the GBA. This is one of those games that I spend a lot of time playing which isn't a RPG or action type game.
So, give a big guess what type of game play does this game offer. Do you know what it is? Its basically like Tetris, but slightly different. However, the underlying mechanism in which you play this game is just like Tetris, not very different.
Basically in the game there are falling, hmm, how should I say it? Grouping eggs of the same color (four to be exact). Well, they look like eggs to me. Anyway, these eggs always fall in pairs. Got that? Two eggs. So, while they're falling down into the ground you can manipulate the eggs just like in Tetris. You can make them stand vertically, or you can switch one egg to the right or left. But the most important thing you should remember that you should group the groups into four so they touch each other. And when they do, these eggs pop'. SO you're left with clear area in which the next batch of eggs can fall down.
The game is over when you have too many eggs on the screen and it fills the whole place up, so you're always on the prowl to make sure all these eggs pop or else!
The interface for this game is really simple. You have the score, which it keeps tab of how many eggs you pop and you get points. There isn't any point to the point system, but it is there none of the less. Then you have a combo. Its kind of complicate, but I think I can explain it lucidly.
Another fun and thoughtful feature they put into this game is called the big egg'. Basically you pile on four eggs by putting them in a square formation and you get to form a big egg. Why the big egg? If you pop an egg in any way near the big egg, the big egg also pops therefore you again an easy A'. I like that.
Basically you have to pop eggs by grouping them into four, right? Lets say there is a falling pair of eggs and you make a batch of eggs pop, but then there is one egg in the falling pair remember? That single egg somehow strategically place itself in a batch so it pops, too. Therefore you popped two batches (eight eggs) with just a pair. Sounds a bit complicated with explaining in text but it isn't when you play the game.
Oh yeah, when you get a combo done, you're reward with this letter A'. So what is the letter A for? Well, when you're in deep trouble you can summon one of the many Tiny Toon characters to help you. The essentially remove some of the eggs for you if you're clutter with too many of them; therefore you should be frugal when using the help because you don't know when you desperate need them!
There is also the time function in the interface, located at the right hand side, which tells you the duration of the game. I don't know if it serves any functionary purpose; I think the time is there just for show or something.
Oh yeah, at the bottom hand corner on the right there is the level. Basically the higher up you're in the level, the faster the eggs drop in the game so you have to think really fast or else it will keep pilling on and you're so frustrated! Of because you have to be elite like me to play at level 30!
There are several modes in which you can play the game in including Survival, Puzzle, Multi-player and that's about it. One interesting note that there isn't any option mode in this game. Very strange!
In closing, this game came out as a pleasant surprise. Because when I first played this game I was thinking, here we go again another adventure game involving those cartoon characters but I was wrong! Instead the game developers took the imitative and did something different; therefore they different them shelve from the mass of horrible adventure game and did something, while not novel, a lot different!
I recommend you buy this game, or rent it first, but buy it if you want some endless replay value. That is all for now; I hope you enjoy my final review! (clasp hands and bow)
