Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace
Review by J J N
"Best Spider Man for the GBA!"
So here I am, playing the Japanese version of SpiderMan. By playing the Japanese version, I'll assume this is made from a Japanese company and -- my oh my! -- this is one of the best game Spider Man game for the GBA I've played up to date.
Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace is very good!
Unlike the other Spider Man GBA games -- Spider Man II and Spider Man: the movie -- this is actually a nicely refined game where the elements for the game is actually good, namely the game play and the graphics. And another important thing about this game: I actually enjoy playing this game, ok?! This game is actually fun to play! Now that is a good change.
Straight off the bat, you see the graphics for this game which is actually so amazing! I love it. It looks like the game developers made this game out of Java or something because the graphics for this game is solid; the textures and the moment of the entities in this game is fluid and smooth. I won't hesitate to mention that this is absolutely one of the best graphics I have witness for the GBA! Absolutely amazing.
While this is a side scrolling platform game like the other Spider Man games it is still fun. You control Spider Man in which he can jump, shoot web, beat up the enemies, swing around the city, cling to wall ... you know, the usual stuff.
interesting to note that the enemies in this game are gangster like -- those retro kind, who wear a three piece suit with tie -- with Thompson gun blazing and you have to beat 'em up. There are also thugs in the game (there are always thugs in spider man game for some reason) who are big and massive, like a brute.
One mundane thing I should mention is that you save people in this game ok? There are like helpless people surrounded by thugs and you need to save 'em by beating up the enemies and therefore they become free. I don't like that; can't the game developers think of some other objective? Aren't we tired of this saving business already?
Bah, there isn't any challenge in this game ought because the enemies in the game don't put up a good fight; all they do most of the time is shoot things or try to come close to you and knock you out; thus they can be easily defeated by dodging the bullets or just running straight at 'em and knocking them down silly. This game needs more challenge -- keep that in mind, game developers.
In closing, this is one of the best spider man for the GBA; believe me, I played all the Spider Man for the GBA so far. Should you buy or rent this game? I say buy if you're a spider man fan. Its good, way better then other Spider Man games for the GBA. But if you look at it as a stand alone game without comparing it to other Spider Man games, then it is slightly above average.
