Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel

Review by blitz_ace99

"One of the best games on GBA."

Let me just start off by saying that this is by far the best Yu-Gi-Oh! game that I've ever played on any system. It's a great addition to its previous games in the series and offers you more than you'd ever come to expect, delivering itself in fantastic style and presentation making it possibly the best Yu-Gi-Oh! game around.

STORY: 0/10
There is no story in this game and to my knowledge there have only been a few Yu-Gi-Oh! titles like the PS2s Duelist of the Roses that are actually story based. However there is a point to this game that I guess you could call a story if you like, and that's to duel. You're not Yugi Motou and you're not Seto Kaiba... You're you, and it's your job to navigate around the map looking for opponents to duel for cards.

GAMEPLAY: 10/10
Here's where the fun really begins! Basically you need to duel opponents and beat them in order to win cards and to bring up what I'll call a 'booster pack' selection screen where you get the opportunity to select a picture and upon selecting it you get some cards from that type of set. The objective in this game is to make the best possible deck you can and to duel all the best opponents for a shot at getting all the best cards. You can customise your own deck and with the amount of cards that are available to you in the entire game you'll surely be occupied for hours on end and entertained at the highest possible level. Characters from the TV series like Yugi, Kaiba, Tristan, Mai, Joey and Marik also make an appearence, Tea being my favourite character. They'll keep you pumped up for the duel with their witty comments of sheer determination (Rare Hunter seems to think he has the best deck, as always...). Basically what you put into this game will determine what you get out of it.

GRAPHICS: 8/10
What do you expect for a GBA game? Most games on this hand held don't have crash hot graphics either and that in itself doesn't worry me because I worry more a less worry about the gameplay more than anything else. The graphics for this game are still pretty cool though and for an anime I guess that's acceptable.

CONTROLS: 10/10
All the games that I've played on the GBA have fantastic controls and this game is certainly no exception. Actually I own a GB SP so I don't think it would make too much difference between the two in terms of the controls. It's not one of those button-mashing games it;s more along the lines of selection.

REPLAY VALUE: 9/10
This game will surely keep you entertained for hours on end, mainly because of the infinite possibility creating decks with all the different types of cards you'll get. Your opponents will always be up to the challenge and even some nasty ones will greet you along the way. I typically find myself playing this game at least three or four times a week so the replay value seems pretty high to me.

RENT OR BUY: Well I don't think you can rent it in America you certainly can't rent it here so I suggest you buy it and see what you think of it. Serious Yu-Gi-Oh! fans will declare this game an instant classic that belongs in everyones collection of GBA games.
