Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Review by soniclink15
"Looking for a challenge? Look at this!"
Before Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, Devil May Cry 3 for PS2, or F-Zero GX for the Gamecube this was one of the games people had extremely hard time beating. Its not impossible but it still takes a lot of skill and determination to complete this game.
Story
The story is pretty bleh. Our hero returns home, with people celebrating with fireworks in the sky. Then in the shadows of the woods you can see demon's shadows. When Arthur meets his girlfriend/wife and as they are about to reunite one the demons crashes through the window and captures the poor girl. Now you have to journey across deadly areas to rescue her. How original!
Graphics
The graphics remain true to the original SNES game, which is really a bad thing. Everything is detailed and it has some pretty decent background. Everything is crisp and clear. When the coffins of the zombies are coming out of the ground you can see cracks and dust on them which I thought was pretty cool. There is some slow down when there are a lot of enemies in the area which sometimes gets you killed. Overall I would say the graphics are solid, but they don't match up to newer games like
Sound
I loved the music in this game! All the songs have a creepy adventure sound, which matches up well with the spooky areas Arthur travels through. All of the weapons have their own sounds too and they represent the weapons abilities pretty well too. For example the dagger sounds a lot quieter and quicker then the lance.
Control
The controls are pretty basic. One button to attack and one button to jump and when you are in gold armor you can charge up with the attack button and unleash a super attack and you can preform a double jump by pressing the jump button in midair. Arthur moves pretty slow which might be hard for some gamers. The controls are easy to learn but hard to master and you need to master them to get through the game.
Gameplay
As I stated earlier this game is hard, really hard. This game is fair so don't think its a cheap game. Its hard because you can only be hit two times before you die so you can't get hurt at all. Also enemies continually respawn so you can't kill all the enemies in an area and then keep going, you have to keep moving and kill along the way. Also in the platforming areas there are often flying foes, which you have to try to kill in midair or else they will hit you in midair and cause you to fall and die. Its just a tough game.
I really like this game, I love the challenge and the sweet music, but since there is a bit of slowdown and I think Capcom could have updated the graphics a bit. if you are looking for a challenge look no further then Super Ghouls N' Ghosts.
I give this game 9/10
