Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Duel Academy

Thank you for looking at my review for Yu-gi-oh GX: Duel Academy. This game is well...sub-par. Don't get me wrong I'm not a Yu-gi-oh hater, but be prepared in this game all it is, is dueling. The AI in this game is better than some other games but is still not good. This game has hardly any (if at all) RPG elements, unlike some other Yu-gi-oh games. So what is this game really like read the rest of the review to find out.

Dueling: 8/10
Because this game is mostly dueling I decided to review it first. Before I start I just want to say that the AI is a bit better in this game then most other Yu-gi-oh titles. Don't get me wrong when I say this. So let me clear it up the AI is good BUT that does not mean they will whip your *** every time. The AI is somewhat weird in this game the AI can be smart but not always. This may be a bit confusion so let me give an example: Say they have 500 LP and you have 1600 LP they will play a trap that actually may hurt them or they would play a monster that costs LP to play. So in all the AI can be stupid but it can be VERY smart in some cases. Anyway this game is mostly dueling and you know the case you play a card your opponent plays a card and so on and so forth. However I like card games and I like that it sticks to the basic rules of Yu-gi-oh so I give this an 8/10.

Gameplay 2/10
I cannot stand the gameplay in this. When I bought this I was saying to myself "Oh I hope you get to walk around and talk to people". And when I first played it the way the characters talk in the beginning you would think that you can walk around. But you can't. So anyway the gameplay is you go through a week that you actually can't do nothing in unless you schedule duels. And on the weekends all you can do is duel (or you can just stay in your room). Occasional special events can occur on the weekdays or weekends but I can't say to much about those. Also during the week on Tuesdays you go to a duel shop and buy some packs. Anyway gameplay gets a 2/10.

Story: 1/10 argh do I have to review this : (
There is almost no story line in this game other than people coming across the screen and talking. This game has almost no replay value unless all you like is dueling and dueling and dueling. If your a fan of compelling story lines RUN RUN away from this game. I'm sorry Yu-gi-oh no offence but this storyline is not good. 1/10 that's all I got to say.

Sound/Music 1/10
The sound in this is just argh so aggravating. It's like a nail on a chalk board yes it's that annoying. I'm not saying it's bad but after listening to it for a minute it's like you want to staple your ears shut. So yea basically I am saying it's bad. 1/10 Just leave it at that.

Overall 5/10 Buy or Rent?
Overall This game isn't that good. So buy or rent? Unless you are an EXTREMLY big fan of dueling just don't even rent it just run as fast as you can. But if you are an EXTREMLY big fan of dueling & dueling & dueling. Then maybe this is for you my final score is 5/10. Technically I should've gave it a 3 but because I actually do like the dueling I gave it a 5/10
