Gunstar Super Heroes
Review by Geohound_Ryudo
"This game is a Treasure."
The bad pun was intended. Treasure made the game. Get it?
Story 6/10
It's a shooter. What are you expecting? There are some things of note involving the story. First of all: almost every character is named after a color. Second thing of note: the story changes based on whether or not you play in Easy, Normal, or Hard. Easy has practically no story at all. Your main goal is to find the four Treasure Gems.
Graphics 10/10
Lasers are flying across the screen. Enemies are only a few in number but are able to be told apart. The cutscenes are pretty good. And there is no slowdown at all even with all the action going on everywhere.
Audio 7/10
The background music is just that: background music. You hardly notice it. I have noticed a trend in GBA games lately. And that trend is voices. This game continues that trend. With a spoken line hear and there.
Gameplay 10/10
It is the reason that this game is so awesome. You have two characters to choose from. Their names are Red (female)and Blue (male). Their leader is Yellow. Each of them has three bullet types. Each bullet type has a "super" version that can be activated when the bar at the top of the screen is glowing red. They each share two of the bullet types. The chaser bullets are the first shared ammo type. They have a medium rate of fire and seek out targets. The super version is a single shot that flies around the screen for a few seconds. The second shot shared between them is a fire bullet. It has a slow rate of fire and does explodes on contact or at the end of its own ranges. The super version is a giant explosion that covers about 2/3 of the screen. Red's unique bullet is a rapid fire plasma shot. The super version has a medium fire rate and larger bullets. Blue's unique weapon is a rapid fire blue laser. The super version is a stream of blue that fires until the red bar drains. You also have some melee attacks. The is the sword slash, some flying kicks, an uppercut, a downward drill kick, and a sliding kick.
Replay value 10/10
A good shooter game always has replay value. This one doesn't fall short in that department.
Rent or buy?
I don't know if its even possible to rent a GBA game. You should still buy it.
