----------------------------- [ Introduction ] ------------------------------
=============================================================================
Hey guys...while I'm a long time Dragon Warrior fan, this is my first guide
to the series. I'm going to try to make it as comprehensive as possible and
I will need your(readers) patience to do it. So if you can so kindly please
leave all questions to yourselves...for now...until I can get through the
game completely. I recently played Dragon Warrior 1/2 and I enjoyed it a lot,
so seeing how DW3 was released recently, I really wanted the title since the
first 2 remakes were a lot of fun on the portable system.
The cart is in a clear blue like case...it's a very "sexay" GBC cartridge and
I for one love it. The graphics in the game have taken another level much
like the last two remakes, unlike Square who just adds cinematics to the game
and leave everything the same(with exception to FF4, where they completely
re-translated the game), Enix not only redesigns the entire game, but also
re-translate a lot of the text, add more animation to the game and basically
giving the game a whole new experience. I really urge you people to try this
game out, it's a lot of fun and one of the best RPGs you can bring with you
while you're out at a boring restaurant or watching Final Fantasy: The
Spirits Within(hehe).
I'm nearly done with the guide...when you see a LAST version, I'm basically
done with the guide. I also wanted to note that this is the most complex
guide that I have ever done and it took a lot of time, with the guide.
Without Prima's help in the personality and character classes, I don't know
how those sections could've even existed.
=============================================================================
--------------------------------- [ Tips ] ----------------------------------
=============================================================================
Okay...so this section is kinda useless, UNLESS you are new to RPGs. The
section below is designed to help you out if you have some trouble
understanding RPGs.
- Think carefully on who your characters should be. A balance approach is
often more favorable then 100% brute force or magic.
- It's always good to level up and gain gold around a new town that you
visit. Sure it's tedious, but it will help you in the long run and will
make you much more formidable against your opponents.
- Talk to everyone you see...and as "un-hip" as this may sound, get out a
sheet of paper and jot down some things if you think you are prone to
forget.
- Try to keep some items handy, magic isn't always reliable as you may
sometimes find yourself low on MP after a tough battle and you are a good
distance away from towns.
- If first you don't succeed, try again...right? Yes, but with a new approach
at hand. It's okay to lose to a certain opponent, at least the second time
you know what to prepare for. Use the ole' paper and pen method if you can,
you'd be surprised how much it can help the RPG newbie and veteran.
- Normally each character can equip certain items and such, you can give the
items off to each party member by selecting "Item" then selecting on the
appropriate item, then select "Pass" and select who you want to give the
item to, then it'll tell you if you want that party member to equip the
item(assuming of course you gave them a weapon or armor), if the stats are
in your favor, go ahead and have that party member equip that item.
- By pressing the Select button after conversations, you can later recall
the words of people later on by using the Recall, Recollect, and Remember
spells. Take advantage of this since it costs no MP and remember, you're
only human...we are all prone to forget things now and then.
- Always check every little pot, barrel, bush, or whatever that you see.
They may contain some useful items.
- When you walk outside for a certain period of time it turns dark, you can
reverse this effect by sleeping at an inn or casting PassTime. When it's
dark, the ratio for random encounters is higher than that of day.
- Look where you walk, in forests the party is much more prone to random
encounters then on plain fields...unless you want to level up more quickly
I suggest you try to walk on the plains when possible.
- Try to take advantage of the Field Log more often, this will allow you to
save your game at any given point of the game besides during battle and
inside Pachisi tracks. However, keep note that the Field Log does not
allow you to continue after you've saved in the log, once you have saved in
the log the game resets and if you continue from the log...the log is
automatically deleted. This feature is used to give players a short break
or a long break from the game without the hassle of going to see a king
every so often.
- When you are poisoned or affected with any other status ailment, be noted
that an inn will heal NONE OF THESE. Buy some items and keep them in stock
when you need to use them later on.
- Try to avoid being biased in your character's classes. Don't pick three
Mages or three Warriors. The game offers you the best balance at the start
with the Hero, Warrior, Cleric, and Mage. You can alter this to Hero,
Warrior, Mage and Mage or have two Warriors and one Mage, but always keep
a magic user in your group...they become quite handy in battles and outside
of battle.
- Keep track of your items, your characters cannot hold a lot of items and
you will have to put some items in the bag. If you must discard something,
discard something like a Token or a MoonHerb, items that are rarely used
in a lot of cases. Or you can discard any weak equipment, basically any
equipment that is very weak and is no good for money.
- Also you can do a soft reset, A+B+Select+Start, if you don't want to hit
the power switch and risk damaging your battery just incase something
happens...like a permanent stats decrease from the Pachisi tracks.
- Try to avoid dying too much when you don't have a LifeStone or any life
spells(like Vivify). If you want to revive your characters back, a small
donation will be asked of you...but this donation becomes increasingly
more generable to the favor of the minister at each temple. Meaning that
the amount will be greater the more you ask to Revive, De-Tox, or Uncurse
each character...try to buy Antidotes or fight monsters for LifeStones.
- They're most likely going to be times when you are in a tough situation as
you have only one party member alive and you face against a group of
monsters. Even if you lose, you still retain the stats earned from whatever
point you lost at, but you lose half your gold. You will also be taken back
to the last castle where you have saved, which could be a very far off
location depending on where you saved. So unlike most other RPGs where you
must start over from where you last left off, Dragon Warrior offers a more
suitable situation from your last loss. However, losing isn't going to be
all bad if you are sparse on gold and the castle you saved at is close by,
but if you have a lot of gold and you are far away from a castle and don't
want to talk back...consider running. You can have your first 3 characters
attack and have your last character run...it won't matter, whenever you
have a character run...all actions before it are negated.
- To increase your chances of running, try to give a certain character
AGLSeeds and have him or her use the run command. Note that sometimes
when you run, your escape route is cut off due to the number(or strength
of monster) of monsters. Try killing off a few monsters to give you a
better chance of escaping. Also if you didn't escape the first time,
you'll have a much better chance of escaping the 2nd time...regardless
of how strong or how many monsters there are. Also the weaker the monsters
the easier it will be to escape from.

When you start the game, enter a four letter name(try to avoid the
obscenities :P) for the hero, there really is no given name for the hero
actually...so it's up to you.
Now head out to the waterfall, you'll hear a voice echo from the waterfall
asking you to answer his questions truthfully. It's really up to you to
decide if you want to answer them truthfully or not. However, keep in mind
that depending on what you tell him will later determine the overall
character of your hero and will affect his or her stats. Depending on how
you answered the questions, these are the outcomes of your character's
personality(Chart taken from PrimaGames' DW3 Guide):

=============================================================================
Town Of Aliahan
Party's Level: 1
Items: Club(2), Stick, Traveller Gown(2), 50G, 25G, TinyMedal, Antidote,
STRseed, Herb, 5G
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
It's your 16th birthday(actually, it's an anniversary of it) and the king
wishes to give you his blessings. The hero follows his mother out of his
bedroom and before the bridge leading to the castle, you can head the other
direction which will prompt the hero's mother to ask a series of questions
about the hero's actions. If you answer all "yes" you are free to roam
around the town before visiting the king, but I suggest you visit the king
anyways. He'll tell you about Baramos and provide you with 50G, and some
weapons and armor.
Before you leave the castle, make sure you head down to the first floor
and go around to the bottom right of the castle and check the room on the
left, the two barrels contain a TinyMedal and Antidote.
Now head out of the castle and to the top left corner of the town is the
Tavern, head inside and pick your companions. I suggest you take all three
party members to make your journey a little more easier. When you do, make
sure to give each party member what the king gave you(like Traveler gowns,
sticks, and clubs). Also to the left of the Tavern is a barrel that contains
25G(it's the 2nd barrel in which you will have to walk around).
Below are the character classes and what their level ups would be, including
an individual spell list as well as the top personalities for each class.
In the hero's house there's an Herb in the kitchen, upstairs in the dresser
is a STRseed and 5G...that should pretty much be all the items to collect
in the town.
NOTE: If you prefer to pick your own classes, head upstairs on the 2nd floor
of the Tavern and talk to the clerk. You can register names and such
along with boosting the stats of a certain character in your favor as
well as selecting the class of that character, once you have registered
a character, you can call him or her downstairs at the tavern.
Also before heading out, you make want to check the well at the bottom
right part of Aliahan, inside is a Medal collector and depending on
how many medals you give him will determine what you receive from him
in return:
Prize | # of medals
------------------------------
Spiny | 5
Garter | 10
Blade | 20
INTSpecs | 35
Ninja(suit) | 50
Justice | 60
AGLScarf | 70
Vivify(staff) | 90
Sacred | 95
Gold Pass | 100
Your next task is to head out to the village of Reeve, but I suggest you
stay around Aliahan and fight some battles and gain some quick gold and
levels to stand a better chance against some of the enemies later on.
=============================================================================
Town Of Reeve
Party's Level: 3
Items: None
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
The village of Reeve is to the west past the bridge and north. When you
arrive here, you'll get word of a Thief Key that's south in a forest
as well as the Magic Bomb. Try to level up around this town and buy the
armors and weapons inside. Afterwards you should be set.
=============================================================================
Promontry Cave
Party's Level: 6
Items: Herb, Traveler(gown), 56G, 32G, 40G, TinyMedal, WarpWing, Tomboy Book,
Thief Key
Monsters: HornyHare, Raven, Anteater, Froggore, Butterfly, Babble, StingWasp
=============================================================================
Head directly south past the mountains to an open cave on the peninsula.
Inside head down to the bottom floor...to the bottom is a chest leading to
an Herb, as you continue on pick up the Traveler Gown and 56G along the way
then head to the tower upstairs.
To the far end on the right leads to the prison in Aliahan castle, to the
top leads to 32G and the overworld. Take the staircase at the perpendicular
point where the two paths split up. Here you can take a rest at the inn to
the left, continue to the right, but watch out where you step in this tower
though, you'll end up falling out of the tower and end up making your way
through the tower again.
As you make your way to the top of the tower, try going towards the middle
of the tower that has a stairway leading up just before the top, you should
be able to reach a sleeping old man...get the Thief Key from him and he
mentions something about books being able to change your personality. Check
the bookshelf behind him for the Tomboy book.
Now head back to the Aliahan castle, you can do this either by dropping
from the tower and taking the Promontry Cave back outside and walking to
the castle or you can go back to the first floor of the tower to the jail
cell of Aliahan castle.
=============================================================================
Aliahan Castle/Reeve Town(Theif Key)
Party's Level: 8
Items: TinyMedal, IntSeed, Magic Bomb
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
When you return to Aliahan Castle, a lot of the doors you unlock will lead to
conversations regarding the Magic Bomb...one that could open a path through
the Traveler's Gate to the far east. The only thing of value in Aliahan is
the TinyMedal, head back to Reeve(northwest from Aliahan).
When you arrive here the top right house contains an INTseed and upstairs
the old man will give you the Magic Bomb.
=============================================================================
Tempt Cave
Party's Level: 9
Items: TinyMedal, WarpWing, Magic Map, Antidote, Knife
Monsters: Babble, Echidna, StingWasp, Butterfly, Almiraj, Magician, Catapila
=============================================================================
You'll see a small shrine(or shack) southeast from Reeve, inside check the
vases for a TinyMedal and WarpWing. There's also a book on Boomerangs and
Whips. Now head outside just north-northeast from the place to the Tempt
Cave. When you reach the wall surrounded by two statues, go to your menu
and Use the Magic Bomb.
Pick up the Magic Map and continue on. Watch for the dark spots on the floor
since you'll fall to the floor below if you try to walk across them. You'll
basically have to go around to the top(it's a fairly long walk) of this floor
and then go around to the bottom right and make your way to the middle of
the left side to the next staircase. Then when you reach the lower floor,
take the path to the left and you should find your way to a castle.
=============================================================================
Romaly Region
Party's Level: 11
Items: Toughness, Smart Book, TinyMedal, Moonherb, Antidote, Cheat Book,
Token
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
Up north you'll find a castle, head inside and in the temple you can find
the Toughness accessory along with the Smart book in the bookshelf, a
TinyMedal and Leather Hat can be found at the top left house in the town.
A MoonHerb can be found at the inn and an Antidote, which is on the 2nd
floor of the inn.
The Battle Arena can be found at the bottom left part of town(down the
stairs), it's a fun place to place bets on which monster will win. My best
advice to this Battle Arena is to pay the 5G at the right counter and then
bet at whatever the guy had told you earlier at the left counter, while
it's not 100%, he boasts a much better chance at picking the winner of the
battle than you do. Also when the info guy on the right says something like
ButterflyB, pick the second Butterfly you see...the letter is hidden by a
star when you place a bet on the potential winner of the battle. When the
battle starts, it acts much like a regular random encounter except the
monsters fight each other without all the other on-screen interference.
Afterwards I suggest you go outside of town and fight a couple of battles
to gain a level or two and buy some of the newer equipment you see at the
shops. At the north part of town is the castle, talk with the king, and
you should save your game because I'm pretty certain you've over-abused the
Field Log feature. :P The king will tell you of a bandit named Kandar who
has stolen the crown from the king of Romaly and wishes you get it back for
him so he can recognize you as a hero. From here, head back to the previous
floor and take the stairs to the top left and pick up a Token and a Cheat
Book from the dresser and bookshelf.
NOTE: Directly north is your first Pachisi Track, I suggest you try it out
for fun.
=============================================================================
Kazave
Party's Level: 14
Items: Boxer, Token, LifeAcorn, Fur Hood, Poison Needle, Club
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
Up north past the first Pachisi Track is Kazave, in town there are several
items around the place, be sure to pick them up. To get the Fur Hood go to
the top right part of town behind the house to a hidden staircase and check
the dresser for a Fur Hood.
Try walking around outside till it becomes nighttime, then go inside to the
item shop and take the Poison Needle and Club, also at the cemetary you can
talk to a skeleton(who use to be a man...duh) and he'll tell you how he
killed bears with an iron claw...not his bear hands, not sure what
significance this has to the game...if any for that matter. Try to get your
party members equipped with the best weapons in the armor and weapon shop
here, though it will take quite a long while to do that, it will help you
out a lot when you reach Shampane Tower.
=============================================================================
Shampane Tower
Party's Level: 16
Items: 430G, Bronze Shield, Crown
Monsters: RogueNite, Healer, VenomWorm, Manabat, KillerBee, ArmyCrab,
BigShroom, GasCloud, Kandar, Goon
=============================================================================
Shampane Tower is located to the southwest from Kazave, you'll have to cross
a bridge to get here. On the first floor, to the bottom right is a treasure
chest to 430G, the middle of the floor leads to the next floor. On the
2nd floor, go around to the top. The third floor contains a Bronze Shield
to the right, make sure not to fall off the tower too.
Go around to the top and continue onto the 6th floor, upon arriving at the
sixth floor you'll meet Kandar and his goons, before you can act the party
is dropped to the floor below...don't bother going back upstairs since the
two treasure chests contain nothing. Instead, head back down to the 4th
floor and find Kandar to the right side of the floor and be prepared for
your first boss fight of the game. Also before you face him, you might want
to heal your party to full HP, since this is your first boss fight, you're
not going to be sure how strong this guy will be.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss Battle: Kandar, Goons(3) HP: 300(Kandar), 60(Goons, each)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You'll first want to take out the Goons, Kandar's physical attacks hurt a
ton...so keep a healer ready. Once the Goons are out of the way attack Kandar
at full force. Icebolt works nicely, and you can have your Cleric cast
SpeedUp a couple of times to make Kandar miss his attacks. Keep your HP up
above 40 just to be safe, Kandar can only attack one party member at a time
anyways. If you don't have any heal spells and don't want to sacrifice the
Hero's attacks for the Heal spell, then you should be packing some Herbs,
otherwise you will just have to use your Hero's turns up to heal your party
members.
After the battle you'll receive EXP far beyond what you had before, so drop
off the tower and return back to Romaly. You can equip the Crown if you wish,
it'll offer a good amount of protection.
=============================================================================
The Crown And Romaly
Party's Level: 17
Items: None
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
As you return back to Romaly and accept to become the new king of Romaly,
you'll notice that you cannot do anything as a king. You cannot even wander
out of town...so head to the Monster Stadium below, and talk to the king
that you do not wish to be king anymore.
Now head out and go to the top right part of the continent to Noaniels.
=============================================================================
Noaniels
Party's Level: 17
Items: STRSeed, AGLSeed, Tragic Book
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
Check the town for seeds, you can find them in pots and such. You can find
the Tragic Book in the same house with the AGLSeed upstairs on the right
book shelf, the man upstairs(who's the only one awake) tells you to go to
Elvenham, a town located in the forest. You'll find it in a spot patch in
the forest to the far northwest of this continent. Also, be noted that you
cannot use the inns in any towns near here...you will have to return back
to Kazave if you wish to do so.
When you reach this place inside, talk to the Queen...she'll tell you what
happened...afterwards head outside and to the Noaniels cave to the south.
=============================================================================
Noaniels Cave
Party's Level: 17
Items: 288G, 224G, Token, Rosary, TinyMedal, Repellent, STRSeed,
LeatherDress, Spear
Monsters: CarniMoth, Toadstool, Vampire, MadHound
=============================================================================
This cave is somewhat complicated, at the very bottom leads to 3 different
staircases. The staircase on the bottom right will lead to a TinyMedal,
the middle staircase will lead to eventually lead to where the bottom right
staircase will lead to, while the staircase on the bottom left will lead
the Dream Ruby(eventually).
It'll be too confusing to walk you through this entire cave, but it's not
complicated to find things in the cave, your goal here is to reach the
SandRuby. To do that, take the bottom left staircase on the 1st floor, then
walk across to the far left and take the staircase next to the Leather
Dress, then pick up the Dream Ruby and read the note. After you've read
the note, and picked up all that you felt that you needed to pick up in the
cave, head back to Elvenham.
=============================================================================
The Wake Dust And Noaniels
Party's Level: 18
Items: Kilt, MoonHerb
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
When you arrive at the town, use the Wake Dust, afterwards you can now use
the inn and buy weapons at the item shop. Try fighting around town for some
items like the Steel sword and the Wizard Rod. Afterwards, return to Romaly
Castle and save your game.
=============================================================================
Ashalam
Party's Level: 19
Items: Token, BugPowder
Monsters: None
=============================================================================
There's a hilarious scene that you can do in this town, at night talk with
the girl in the middle of town, allow her to perform a Powerpuff Massage,
and tell her to turn off the lights. When she's done the lights are turned
on and...*shudders*...guess who performed the powderpuff massage? :P Be
noted that you cannot receive the massage if your lead character is female,
when you do get a message, talk to your other party members and get their
reaction...this quotes are hilarious! :)
During night time you can also view the Belly dancing in the theater, in
the daytime is where the hagglers come out. They'll sell you an item at an
outrageous price at first...keep haggling them down(basically you just have
to reply "no") until you find a more reasonable price. However, even the
most reasonable price that these Hagglers can offer may still be a lot more
than what the price is elsewhere, the WizardRod here can be haggled down to
3000G, but you can buy it at Noaniels for 1500G.

-------------------------- [ Pachisi Game Guide ] ---------------------------
=============================================================================
In Dragon Warrior III lies 5 Pachishi tracks, and each track has certain
items attainable provided you reach the goal in the set number of rolls that
you are given. The 5 locations include:
1) North of Romaly Castle
2) Between Ashalam and Isis
3) North part of Shrine Jail Island
4) In the well of Kol in Alefgard
5) Defeat Divinegon at Zenith Tower
You will need a Token to play at the Pachisi or a Gold Pass. However, a
Token can only be used once, while a Gold Pass gives you unlimited visits
to the Pachisi game tracks. Tokens can be found in towns, dungeons, towers
and as items dropped by monsters(spoils). Personally, I find the game a lot
of fun, it can be used to earn you quick cash or powerful equipment that
comes in need immediately or later in the game. Learning Pachisi is not
hard to learn and albeit that a lot of times, people understand the game
perfectly on the first try.
The rules are simple, for each Pachisi track you are given a set number of
rolls to reach the goal. Each roll is represented in die form, so you move
anywhere from 1 to 6 squares. Each square however is composed of different
tiles and these tiles has a design on them:
Tile | Effect and/or description
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start | The start of the game board
Grassland | You may encounter weak monsters or search for gold
| and sometimes find nothing. These tiles are plain
| green-yellow, much like the plains in the overworld.
Forest | These trees on grassland are the same as grasslands
| except with tougher monsters at a higher rate.
Mountains | Like the Forest tracks, stronger monsters with higher
| rate of appearence.
Electric Barrier | These yellow-orange wavy like tiles will deal damage
| to the player equal to 1/3 the player's Max HP.
Lose A Turn | Subtracts the number of rolls on die depending on the
| number on the tile. These tiles look like a die with
| a negative number below it.
Gas Trap | This has a picture of a skull with a slime shape hat
| on, you will lose all your MP.
Go Back Squares | These squares are represented by an arrow facing down
| with a negative number below. When you land on these
| squares, you must go back the number of tiles that it
| says on the square.
Monster Battle | These slime designed squares will put your character in
| a battle against monsters equal to your own strength.
Return To Start | This square looks like a giant U-turn arrow, you will
| have to go all the way back to start.
Signpost | These squares have a sign placed in grassland, you will
| have to follow whatever the direction the sign shows
| you.
- Gold | Gold coins are shown with a negative number below,
| you will lose whatever amount of gold that is shown on
| the square.
Chance Card | These tiles are shown as question marks on squares,
| anything can happen.
Item Shop | The item shop symbol on squares, you can either choose
| to roll or check what's in the item shop.
Change Slots | This slot is very unique, and yes...it is permanent.
| The first time you roll will determine which stat will
| change, like 1 is for Strength, and so on. The 2nd time
| you roll will determine the stat differential, and the
| third time you roll will determine if that stat goes
| up or down...if you get a 1, your stat will go down by
| how many other points that you had received in the 2nd
| roll. These squares have an exclamation(!) mark on
| them.
+ Gold | Gold coins are shown with a positive number below,
| you will gain whatever amount of gold that is shown on
| the square.
Traveler's Gate | These warp designed squares will warp you to another
| place on the game board.
Treasure Chest | These squares will allow you to pick up whatever is
| inside them...usually a weapon or a unique item is
| found inside.
Vase | Like the treasure chest squares, you can pick up
| whatever is inside these vases. However, chances are,
| you will most likely find an item like an Herb or
| Antidote.
Dresser | These dressers are like the Vase and Treasure Chest,
| items can include things like a stat seed.
Add A Turn | These squares have a die on top with a positive number
| below, this will add a set number of turns to your
| roll total.
Go Ahead Squares | These are red squares with an arrow facing up and a
| positive number below. You will move forward depending
| on the number that is set on the square you landed on.
Healing Circle | A star encircled in red will restore your HP and MP
| completely.
Inn | These squares with an inn sign will allow you to stay
| at an inn...but the price is usually hefty.
Goal | This is the spot you must reach to get the acquired
| items in the next door.
Staircase | You will either go to the bottom or the top floor on
| the pachisi tracks.
Trap Door | These trap door like designed squares will drop your
| character to the floor below, basically ending your
| game of Pachisi right then and there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note that to reach the Goal, you must reach it in the exact number of steps
that it takes to get there. Say the Goal is 4 steps away, you must be lucky
enough to get a roll of 4 on your die, if you get 5 you can still reach the
Goal...but you must move back one square. Note that before you ever play
Pachisi, it's always good to save your game and just walk to the closest
Pachisi Track and try it out...if you like what you received from the first
time you played the game, then save it...if not, then try again. You are
almost always certain to find unique items and equipment on these Tracks.
Below are the prize lists for each Pachisi track(except for the 5th track,
which I have not gotten at this point...anyone with information about the
prize at the 5th Track is welcomed to share it [^_^]). Also be noted that
on the Pachisi track, that your stats that are decreased are permanent, yes
permanent. You can always restore those stats with a level gain or using
anyone of the stat seeds that you find along the game or from the spoils
from the game. Also be noted that the stats you earn from the Pachisi game
is also permanent, you may want to save your game before heading to the
Pachisi tracks, so that way when you are displeased with the stats changes
that might incur you can simply reset the game and try again.

=============================================================================
In Dragon Warrior 3(GBC), monsters you encounter sometimes drop medals if
you defeat them. There are over 150 medals, and these medals come in three
different materials...Bronze, Silver, and Gold. You can trade medals with
another friend via a Link Cable, collecting 150 medals of different variety
causes something to happen...which I don't know yet since I only have 2
medals at this current update. :P
