On Pokemon Gold I can't save.
Your in-cartridge save battery has completely died.
You only have 2 options - get another copy with a working battery (which is unlikely now), or get the battery replaced yourself.
You'll need a 3.8mm Gamebit screwdriver, and basic soldering skills to replace the battery.
