Quest: Brian's Journey
Review by killbillyray13
"Just as great as the N64 version"
Many people think that the Quest series is possibly the worst games ever made. Obviously, these people didn't give the game a chance. Well, Imagineer gave these gamers a second chance by releasing Quest: Brian's Journey, a N64 to Gameboy Color transfer of the game Quest 64. In this review, we will look at the high and the low points of Quest: Brian's Journey.
Graphics 7/10
For a Gameboy Color game, I can honestly say that this game doesn't look half bad compared to the other games I have seen for the system. The one thing gamers will notice about the graphics is the fact that much detail went into the monsters of the game. The towns are lavishly developed and the character sprites resemble exact replicas of their N64 counterparts. Now to the downfalls of the graphics. The game has a very low amount of color and a bland variety of it. There is also issues with the spells used in the game. They have a very generic layout and much of them look exactly the same. As the graphics are concerned, this is one of the high points of the game.
Story 6/10
The story of Quest: Brian's Journey is basically the exact copy of the N64 counterpart. You are Brian, the son of the great magician Bart. One day a book is stolen and Bart goes missing, and Brian journeys to find both the book and his father. Brian encounters many strifles in his journey to save the book and his father. If any person has read the story of Quest 64, you have the basic gist of what to expect from Quest: Brian's Journey. The story is another high point of the game itself.
Music 10/10
What can I say, the music is absoultely fantastic. Many of the tunes from the game are soaring through my head as I am typing this review right now. The music is basically 8-bit transfers from the Nintendo 64 game. If any person has heard clips of the music from the Nintendo 64 game, then they will know exactly the reason why I gave the music a perfect score. The music is the zenith of perfection in this game.
Gameplay 9/10
Gameplay is another zenith of this game. The controls are very simplistic and very easy to catch onto. Ways of navagiation are very simple, you either walk or hitch a ride in a ship. No diagonal movements are involved in the game, making it completely 2-D movement. The controls in battles are very simple, move with the control pad and select spells with the A button and use the control pad to select your spells from there. The gameplay is another zenith of Quest: Brian's Journey.
Lasting Appeal 8/10
Once you play through the game, most likely a second run-around is going to occur. There really are not many sidequests to this game, I think only 3, but the leveling up of the spells literally takes months, even years. This provides many enjoyments from the game.
