"Another solid Pokemon game."

Pokemon is the series that made the late 1990's. Everywhere you went you saw something relating to it. But the question is: Does the game deserve all the hype? And the answer is a definite yes.

Gameplay 10/10
The usual you would expect from Pokemon is all here. You start off with one lower leveled Pokemon, and use that to capture and train more. There are six spots in your main line up, which means you get to have six Pokemon on your team. You get to mix and match to the team that suits you. If you want a powerful team, you have to put work into it. You use your Pokemon to beat the 8 gym leaders and earn badges. Once you do this, you take on the Elite Four, and then you take on the Grand Champion. If you beat him, then you get to be the Grand Champion. It seems easy, right? Well, it is, for the first couple of battles, but then it gets intense, and you have you use not only skill but strategy to win.

In this installment of Pokemon, however, there's a twist. Rather then the game ending when you become Grand Champion, in this version you have to go back to the land of Pokemon Red and Blue to beat the eight gym leaders from that game! It's an epic blast from the past, and it sure puts a twist on everything.

Overall, it's a nice games. You walk around to different towns, battling people and taking on different challenges. Another cool feature is the Day/Night system. At 6pm on your game clock, it turn to night. Certain Pokemon can only be caught when it's dark out, and certain events can only be accessed during the night hours. Another interesting par of the game is breeding. You can breed two Pokemon, which gives you an egg. When this egg hatches, you get a Pokemon that has some attacks from it's mother and some for it's father. This adds another whole new level to Pokemon; you can breed your little monsters until you get one that is just right.

Graphics 7/10
Well, the graphics are definitely the worst part of the game. They look very blocky, almost like a early SNES game. The pokemon themselves show little improvement over the first versions, but they still aren't up to par. I mean, you can't really expect a lot out of the Gameboy Color, but I would have liked the graphics to match the other parts of the game.

Sound 9/10
Another great part of this game is the sound. The music is really good in the game. It's cherry, upbeat tunes that really set the mood. The music when you're battling another trainer also hits the spot; it really keeps you in the game. Each Pokemon also has its own cry that is easily recognizable.

Overall 9/10
Pokemon Silver is a great game that every RPG lover should get. It has hours of gameplay, and you'll get lost in the great story as you battle your way up to victory.

Buy, Rent, or Don't?
Well, Gameboy Color games are pretty hard to find, and most people have already played Pokemon. But if you haven't, then this is definitely a game you would want to pick up ASAP.
