WWF Attitude
Review by Dave 008 Bond
"Average. Just plain average."
Introduction
Ok, I tried to enjoy this game, but I could not find anything good about it. Wrestling games that are 2D usually stink, and this one isnt an exception. First of all the Game Boy Color can't do anything that the Nintendo 64 and Playstation versions can do, like Hardcore or Handicap matches. The Game Boy Color wasn't really meant for wrestling games also because of the lack of buttons. It also seems rushed. Well anyway, on to the review.
Graphics 5/10
Very average. The wrestlers look at little too much like squares, and they all look very similar, even the women. The arenas look pretty good, but it is not anything like a real wrestling ring. The crowd is basically a bunch of cardboard people. The moves, well to get an idea of what they look like, Take those action figures that only have joints in there shoulders and hips, and have them do the moves. They don't look very pretty, do they? No they don't.
Overall a Game Boy Color can do MUCH better than this, even an NES can do better!
Story N/A
It is a wrestling game, it does not have a story.
Sound 5/10
Another average part of this game. There is only one twenty second song in the entire game, and it doesn't sound very good. The sound effects sound very average, (all two of them, the ''Clawb!''sound when you deliver a attack and the THUD when you miss a flying attack!)
Gameplay 3/10
There are several interesting features. There is a tag team mode, a cage match, a career mode, and a normal match. There is even a Biography option, so you can find out stuff about the WWF superstars! Most of the wrestlers are here, (But they don't look very good!) But the reason this is a three is because the game is simply no fun to play. Every match goes like this: Punch, Punch, Punch, Scoop Slam, Headbutt, Stone Cold Stunner, 1-2-3. Whoopee. I just won a match against the Undertaker. Lets Celebrate. And believe it or not, every match goes this way! Cage matchs are sadly the same. Tag team matches are so much less fun then it could be, and its made even worse because it doesn't use the Link cable so you can battle a friend. Overall this game is horribly messed up.
Controls 3.5
Unresponsive, poor controls. The moves just love to not respond. This makes doing the moves you want to pull off,(Say you wanted to Suplex someone) but instead you do a headbutt. But you have to remember this is the Game Boy, it only has five buttons. This gets a 3.5 instead of a 2 simply because it is a Game Boy.
Replay Value 2/10
After you beat the challenge mode, this is not worth playing again. But what really kills this game is the fact that there is no link cable capabilitys, so you can't humiliate your friends. Then again I don't know why my friends would play this game. If they found out I liked this game they would laugh at me.
Challenge 4/10
Since the only thing you need to do is Punch, this really kills strategy. It only takes ten minutes to beat the career mode. Acclaim really could have made this a challenging game, but they didn't. Too bad.
Buy or Rent?
MAYBE rent. If you are looking for something to keep you occupied,(for five minutes) rent it. But if you take pride in wrestling games, it would probably be better that you don't play it.
Overall 5/10
This really could have been a good game. It really could have. But no Link cable and poor gameplay really kill this game. Overall I thought this was a very average game.
