"A fun game, but way too easy"
Personally, I find this game fun to break out every once in a while, but over all it's only fun for a short time.
Game play: This game has fairly good game play, although it could have been better. You have the ability to choose from many different types of matches, such as Cage, King of the Ring, and Tag Team. Also for beginners there is a training mode, which is pretty helpful. The only mode where you can get any belts is the Championship mode, which uses passwords. Also in this mode you will occasionally see newspaper articles pop-up saying various things about your characters rise to the top, which is a pretty cool feature.
Also the ability to use the Gameboy hook-up cable to fight a friend is missing, which is a disappointment.
Score:8
Controls: The controls to this game are somewhat awkward at first, but once you get the hang of them they are extremely easy. The only problem is on some occasions they are unresponsive when trying to climb to the top rope, which can cost you a bit. Also the game claims you can break out of an opponent's grapple, but I have never been able to do so. Overall considering the fact that they were limited to a mere 3 buttons I am impressed with the amount of moves they came up with. Score:6
Sound: This is where the game really fails, the sound is just horrible. Basically you hear the same music the whole time along with some extremely crappy sound effects. I'd recommend just turning the sound off. Score:3
Graphics: The graphics for this game are okay, however they could be much much better. Some of the characters look pretty realistic (Taka Michinoku and Sable for example) while others don't look at all like their real life counter parts, especially Mick Foley. The actual ring is drawn pretty well, and there are no major graphic glitches, aside from one with Val Venis. Score:5
Replay Value: This game has a somewhat high replay value because of all the different modes and characters, but really all the characters are just the same person with one different move, their finisher. However, the game is somewhat fun, so you will probably will want to play it again, especially if you're a wrestling fan. Score:7
Overall this is a game you would probably want to rent from Blockbuster, but you could probably find either cheap or used. I recommend this only to the hard core wrestling fan. Otherwise, as I said, just rent it, and you'll have some fun for a while.
