Deja Vu I and II
Review by Hjjf 309
"The classic crime cases of Ace Harding are back!"
Introduction: Deja'Vu was a classic N.E.S game, and it was pretty underrated if you ask Me. This is the classic but now it's on Game Boy Color! And even more, This game is two in one: Deja'vu one, and Deja'vu two, which did not come out for the N.E.S, and that's something good for even the people who have already played through Deja'vu and have it in there N.E.S libraries. Now, on to the review.
Graphics: Coming from the ''Old Nintendo'' as many people call it, and being packed on to the little Game Boy Color, your probably already prepared for the graphics you will get. Ever played Shadowgate or any other text based, point and click RPG? There is really no animation. The graphics you do see, which are more like still pictures, are sort of like a cartoon. You can tell what everything is supposed to be, and to be truthful, that is the only thing a video game really requires in the graphics department.
Play Control: This is point and click, so you.... Point and click! The ''Hand'' you move around with the control pad, is pretty fast.. Well, at least it's not really slow. The ''A'' button will highlight stuff from the ''Tool box'' area, and the ''B'' button is used to cancel some menus. Pretty simple, and that's all there is to say, because I never really ran into problems with the play control.
Music: The music from this game sort of sticks in your head. It sounds a lot like detective music, and since this is a detective game, I suppose you could say it fits the atmosphere well.
Sound Effects: There may be two sound effects. . But I recollect more on the lines of only one. What can I say? There was some ''Bleeps'' and ''Bloops.''
Story: Two stories! Thats pretty good. As for the first one, from the classic Deja'vu.. You are Ace Harding. Or so you think. You've got a bad case of amnesia, and you've been framed for a killing of some guy named ''Joe'' who owns a bar.. Or used to... And now you must find ways to cure your memory loss, while solving the over all mystery. In Deja'Vu two, your in Las Vegas. You've already got back your memory, and you know your Ace Harding, Private Eye. Now some, crazy Mob guy, wants you to find his money, or else...... Don't, worry, The Story of Deja'Vu two will get deeper. Pretty good storys, if I do say so.
Game play: This is a point and click RPG set in the 40's gangster era. You use the ''Hand'' to check all the things at your current location. The main goal of the game is to solve the mystery, by collecting clues. If you have played these types of games before, you shouldn't be completely in the dark.. If not, this game could give you some problems. You have to learn to put items together, read all the papers you get, write stuff down if you have amnesia like Ace, ect, ect. There are things you don't have to check to get through the game.. Just fun little ''Extra's.'' Exploring the large city of Chicago, ((Or Las Vegas, if your playing the second,)) is a lot of fun, in My opinion. There's more stuff to see and do then you might expect. One thing I found cool is that when you take a taxi, you have to put money in before you get out. Try to leave with out paying your fare for a laugh. ((It won't be a laugh if you didn't save first. More like a scream of rage.)) Just like in real life, you need money for all sorts of things in this game. And Playing the slots is the way to go for collecting your money.
Challenge: This game can be really hard if you do it all on your own.. If your using a F.A.Q, or other type of Walk through, the Game won't be hard at all. This game takes lots of thinking, your'll also have to try all kinds of things, and always try to think a minute before making a move in an intense situation: Your not timed, and that's a good thing.
Replay Value: Once you beat one game, you have the other to play! Once you've went through one, your'll most likely remember most of the big clues, and that will take down some of the Challenge and fun, but it can still be fun to play again.
