The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Review by Fudge
"Good game - all the expected Zelda elements"
The Story at first is pretty basic - save Nayru from Veran, blah , blah. There's a tree to give very general advice. A few characters from OoT & Majora's Mask reappear - but you don't half to have played any Zelda games to understand. Between this & Oracle of Seasons, whichever you choose goes first! There is no 'order' - just if a password is entered, some of the scenes change to make the story seem to continue from the last game. Within the game, the story is fairly linear, despite this being an RPG - it has the same Zelda way of keeping you in the right line in the game; path blocked, need new item to proceed, item in dungeon, path blocked, etc...
Hardness - well considering that I absolutely suck at games, I still got through this one. There are lots of puzzles - a few hard ones, a couple of the bosses will probably take multiple tries (I can think of two in particular that had me stuck for a while - but then again, there usually are at least that many), there was one minigame that required decently quick reaction times, and there's maybe one time when it might take a while to figure out where you should have gone next. Overall, if I can beat it, anyone can with time, but that's not bad, necessarily.
Replay - I suppose the password process extends it some, but all in all this is an RPG - a good one, but I doubt I'll replay it much - with the possibility of collecting rings & there being a significant number of mini-games, this game should last longer than Link's Awakening - but not a whole lot more.
Overall I think the biggest problem is that the story's too short. It is not as detailed as most Zelda games. The graphics are clearer than the last Zelda gameboy game - because this is a Gameboy Color Only game (or Gameboy Advance, when it comes out) - it will not play on an Original Gameboy or Gameboy Pocket! This is a good game of a classic Zelda type - a little shorter than normal, in my opinion, but it does have minigames, ring collecting, & the password system to extend it. You'd probably like this as much as any of the older Zelda games (gameboy, NES, SNES) - it's the same style. Not much original, but it is different from Oracles of Seasons - if you play both, one will be as much original & take as much time as the other. Like most Zelda games, there is pretty much no learning curve.
I gave this game an 8.
