Dragon Warrior I&II

Review by dirtycup II

"I can see why Enix rivals Square with these great games!"

Yet ANOTHER NES game converted to a Game Boy Color cartridge? Not to fear, this is a game worth revival! These are the first two games in the amazingly popular series which, in Japan, out sold Final Fantasy! Yes, just one of these games would be enough to make it worth your while to purchase it, but you get two for the price of one! Yes, these timeless classics are back and you can fit two huge adventures in one pocket!

Graphics: 10/10

Very colorful, very bright. The backgrounds are easy to distinguish and beautiful. The enemies are very detailed and can be quite intimidating. In the first game, the backgrounds that surround the enemy during a battle look pretty realistic. This game does NOT lack in this section.

Sound: 8/10

Not bad, not bad at all. The sound effects aren't bad, and music is nice. you can hear creepy music while exploring a dark cave, and the overworld music is very catchy. The only problem is the music gets a bit repetitive, and barely changes from the first to second game.

Gameplay: 9/10

Solid RPG fun! Turn based battling and cool monsters to fight. Fighting enemies is a challenge if you wonder off too far and run into higher level monsters. These games never get boring in these sections, but it is a little tedious to go back to the area where you started the game and fight very easy monsters every few steps. Sometimes you just want to explore, but enemies keep attacking.

Story: 10/10

You are a brave descendent of Loto, and you must defeat the evil Draco Lord! You must also find a kidnapped princess, recover a magical harp, find some way to get across to the island where Draco Lord resides.... And that's just the first game! In number two, you have to... Well, it'll take to long to type it all out it's so engrossing. Don't be surprised if you think everyone who is a friend is truly good!

Replay: 7/10

I must say, the game lacks a bit in this department. There is no further exploration after you beat both games, because you can't complete either without practically exploring every inch. It is fun for awhile trying to get your whole party to the highest level possible, but this will take FOREVER and isn't that rewarding. It is always fun to start a new game though, so I'll give it a seven.

Buy or rent:

If you want to get remotely far in either game, buy it. If you rent this game, you will want to finish it and be sorry you didn't buy it!
