The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

Review by Admodieus

"A terrific game that rivals a Link to the Past, OoT, and MM combined."

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages is part of a one-two punch that was introduced with Oracle of Seasons. Ages is more puzzle-oriented, and also features character interaction from OoT and MM. So if you like those, make sure to pick up Ages. (not like you shouldn't have anyway)

Ages also has it's fair share of action, but what really stands out in this game is the two different time periods. Sure, Seasons has 4 different climates, but the landscapes there are all pretty much the same. What's even better is that what you do in the past, affects the present(like it should).

I think that you should play Seasons first, just because Ages has the better ending and has the more closure of the series.

Story: 9/10

The story of this game alone isn't awesome, but when played with Oracle of Seasons, you'll see the story come together. I think Ages, standing alone, has the better storyline though. Anyway, this gets a 9/10.

Controls: 10/10

The control scheme is the same as in Oracle of Seasons and Link's Awakening. You assign a weapon to the A and B Buttons, each. You can then use them, or switch them in your sub-menu for other items. An ingenious idea.

Graphics: 10/10

It pretty much uses Link's Awakening's sprites, and also introduces new ones. They're crystal clear, crisp, nice-looking graphics. Possibly the best graphics ever on a Game Boy Color. I even think they may rival some Game Boy Advance game graphics, but it's too soon to tell.

Gameplay: 10/10

This is where the game becomes a buyer. Ages by itself is a terrific game, and the ending(a.k.a after the eighth dungeon) is well tied into the main storyline, and it feels like everything depends on you. Put together with Seasons, and you have a 16-dungeon epic quest that will keep you playing for hours. The password system that links the games together and allows for transfer of new and old items is a great idea, and it surely helps the gameplay.

Overall(Not an Average): 10/10

Everything about this game is a winner. The only thing that could've made it better was a song to go to the future, perhaps after the game to see what you did. But even without that it's a great game.

Standing alone, Oracle of Ages will keep you playing for a long time, entertained with everything about the game. Put together with Seasons, you'll be playing for ages....and many seasons.
