Dragon Warrior III

Review by CTrunks

"The classic made even better."

Gameplay – 10/10: This is one of the best games, especially for the fans of the original Dragon Warrior 3. The addition of Monster Medals actually makes you want to get into fights with lower-level, weak-kneed monsters. The addition of the Thief, who was not in the first game, makes it more fun, since Thief’s are pretty darn cool.

Story – 9/10: Well, it does fill in the confusion from the original Dragon Warrior. Basically, your father, the brave, honorable, yet incredibly STUPID, Ortega is dead. He set off to beat up this big fat evil Demon Lord, Baramos, but the sucker fell into a volcano and died. Baramos must be stopped, you start on Aliahan, and you decide where it ends. You are his son/daughter, the brave “Name”, and you are Aliahan’s last hope. (Lot of pressure for a kid.) You also have to drag 3 other people along with you, who will be aid you in your quest to give the Demon Lord a giant wedgie. That’s right, I said WEDGIE! At the start, your character is asked several tedious questions that force you to actually think. Then, a scenario. After you do SOMETHING in this scenario, be it leave or kill people, you get your personality. If you hate it, it might mean that you hate your OWN personality.

Audio/Video – 10/10: MUCH better than the original. The Over-World music gets annoying, and the battle theme is worse, but the effects they put into this is amazing. Now, instead of just getting your butt whooped by a Slime that stays there and smiles, it MOVES and whacks you in the face, all the while smiling. The special effects really make it good though, like when your butt gets whooped by a fire-breathing dragon with attitude. And the noise…the horrible noise of that Slime who will put you up a level running like HECK to escape your wrath, and a giant wedgie. Again with the wedgie talk…meh.

Replayability – 10/10: This game is so good, you can’t put it down. All the secrets in this game will just keep you playing until either your batteries die or you beat the game. Batteries will die first. Trying to FIND the secrets might drive you up a wall and into a tree, but you will want to keep on playing, trying new combinations of helpers. Try using three Jesters. Now THAT is fun. Yet stupid.

Buy or rent: BUY! If you rent, you better hang your head in shame. Anyone who has played the original, as I said earlier, will enjoy this one.

Overall: - 9/10: It’s probably one of the best games out there for the Game Boy Color. Anyone who says otherwise can…well…go away. FAR away. The only problem is the music…which lowered its score. By a little bit.
