Metal Gear Solid
Review by Dogg
"Solid Snake definitely is the man!"
Many people including me never expected this. Metal Gear Solid on the Game Boy Color. Well it has been a some good solid years since Snake has been shown if you take out his Playstation appearance and it's probably best that Konami did bring Metal Gear on the Game Boy Color because this would have been our last preparation for Konami's masterpiece, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. As this game was released we all saw the true power of what Snake had to offer.
Everything that was seen in the Playstation version can be solely forgotten. This game is based very loosely on Metal Gear Solid and is actually based more on the older Metal Gear games. These include Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 which appeared for the Japanese MSX-2. However, everything that was shown in Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation was well executed in this game. Great control and a ho-hum story are what this game is all about. The story mainly consists about terrorists planning to launch a nuke with the help of a nuclear walking battle tank subtitled '' Metal Gear.'' The terrorist groups leader is a man called Viper. Well it has a ''ok'' story, this game offers more with control. In this game you play Snake, who is a man determined on destroying Metal Gear. Snake's moves are easily executed. Just press the A button to punch and kick and use the B button to shoot your weapon. But that's not it there's more. Press the Start button to crawl and the Select button to open up a menu where you can go on Codec, which is like a phone walkie talkie thing, and on the Select menu you can also pick out your weapons and secondary items.
Where this game might fall is with its weak level premise. Now you start in a jungle, then you go to a sewer and get half drowned by streaming water. Then accelerate past a huge building with lasers and gas everywhere and this whole part just continues till you fight Metal Gear at the end. Also the enemies and the bosses aren't really that hard to take care of.
The graphics are pretty good considering it's a handheld game or any type of game for that matter. This game however isn't as colorful as any of the Metal Gear MSX-2 games or any of the Metal Gear NES games. The sound is the same too. All I can tell you is too not except much and to not have big expectations.
All in all this game is definitely worth a purchase or probably a rental. If anybody is a really huge fan of Metal Gear they should play this, but if anybody who's really new to Metal Gear should try their best to avoid this game.
