Pokemon Trading Card Game
Review by redmanegg
"Pokemon card game on Game Boy Color? Cool!"
Me, I'm not a fan of the other Pokemon games. I find them so boring! But I like trading card games. Have you tried them? It's fun and addicting, but buying those cards are expensive!
The Game Boy Color game of Pokemon trading cards is a complete version of the real game. When it came out, I think it included all the Pokemon cards that were out at the time. Now the game is out of date, but it's still a fun and cheaper alternative to real life cards.
There is an obvious drawback to the Game Boy game. You can't play with anyone that doesn't have their own Game Boy Color and their own copy of Pokemon Trading Card Game. However, with this comes the obvious advantage: you can play by yourself against the computer! There is also an auto save feature, so you can save your progress even in the middle of a card game, not just in between card games.
GAMEPLAY - 5/5
You play as a kid (who I suspect is designed to look like a girl or a boy) with a deck of cards. The adventure aspect is pointless, but that's okay because the whole point of the game is about playing cards. You just go to a person and play! You complete the entire game when you beat all the card champions in a game of Pokemon cards. The details of the actual game is too tedious and difficult to explain (especially since I can't show you with real cards) but it is actually quite simple (but deep) and the game teaches you with a very good tutorial.
After a while into the game, though, you begin to win a lot of cards, and if you understand the game well, it becomes too easy to win. Though, I don't think you have to worry about that unless you played the game with real cards before.
STORY - 1/5
You play as a kid with a deck of cards and you want to become the Pokemon card champion. Well, it's not like a Game Boy game needs story!
GRAPHICS - 4/5
Pretty good! The cards look great in the game and the attack animations are nice.
SOUND - 3/5
You don't even need the sound at all. You can just turn the sound off. But, the game has good sound and music for a Game Boy Color game.
REPLAYABILITY - 3/5
Well, you can collect all the cards in the game, but that doesn't take too long. But, you can always start the game over, but with a different deck. That makes it a whole new game! (You choose to start with 1 of 3 decks in the start.)
TO BUY OR TO RENT
Rent it, become addicted, then buy it. And then you can play Pokemon card anywhere. :-)
