Azure Dreams
Review by Return of RPGMonkey
"A fun game ported straight from PlayStation!"
Azure Dreams for the Game Boy Color. In my opinion, a pretty good game. This game was ported to the Game Boy Color from the PlayStation. Although it misses a few things it had on the PlayStation, this game still shines.
Story: (7.2/10)
The story is mainly about a 15 year old boy named Kou. One day, Kou's father, who is the best monster tamer of all time, disappears in the Tower of Monstrosity. As Kou ages, he becomes old enough to find and tame monsters, and also to figure out the mystery of his father. Thus begins your journey, starting out at the Tower.
Gameplay (9.4/10)
The gameplay is great, as are most RPGs. In this one, instead of random dungeon battles, you can see the monster you are going to fight before you actually fight them. This comes in handy sometimes when you are weak. Otherwise, it is a very long and fun journey to tame as many monsters as you can and find your lost father.
Graphics: (8/10)
The graphics are quite nice for a Game Boy Color game. The cities, villages, and towns you visit are nicely drawn and the buildings are very accurate. During a battle, the monsters are also drawn very nicely and smoothly. The colors of the monsters match to their type of elemental magic. For instance, if you were facing a red monster, its elemental magic would be fire.
Sound: (6.8/10)
The music is great! It's very catchy and after a minute or so you will find yourself humming along to it. I especially like the tower's music. In battle, the sound is also good. When you do a spell like a fireball, it makes a roaring sound as if to be an actual fireball. But there is a downside. Actually, a HUGE downside. The music gets amazingly annoying, as it just repeats itself through the whole dungeon or town! This really aggravates several people.
Hardness Factor: (4.5/10)
Azure Dreams is a long game, but still pretty easy. By the time you reach a lengthy or difficult boss, you will already be trained enough so that you can't lose. The game would overall be much better if it was harder.
Replay Value: (7.4/10)
The replay value is pretty good. Once you beat the game, you can start over, train harder, and try to collect all the monsters. You can also push your self further by beating the game without dying once.
Overall: (7/10)
Azure Dreams is a fun RPG. It's easy, so it is mainly for newer people to the RPG genre. It's got great basics with just a few bad flaws.
Buy/Rent/Not? Buy it. It is a good and fun RPG, and for me, it was worth the 20$.
