BattleTanx
Review by Return of RPGMonkey
"A below average game, ported from the N64!"
Battle Tanx for the Game Boy Color. You have a tank, and you go around, smashing trees, lightposts, and other things for points. It is a standard beat 'em up game that's only fun for 20 minutes. It was ported from the N64 with worse graphics and control. I paid 15$ for my copy of the game, and I think it was just barely worth it. Let's go to the reviews.
Story: (4.8/10)
You go around the town destroying other tanks, in order to save the world from a group of notorious bad guys who stole the game's chick. You have to save her. Pretty bad storyline because it's very common and un-original. 4 other tanks need to be killed as you go through the easy levels destroying parts of the city.
Gameplay: (3/10)
This is the weakest aspect of the game. It is extremely short-Only a couple of hours. I finished it the day after I got it. You go through all the levels to kill several things in this weak beat 'em up game. The game is pretty much basic-you do the same thing every level. Go through, destroy things for points, kill the tank at the end. It gets very old.
Graphics: (5.5/10)
Battle Tanx has average graphics. The tank that you control have somewhat of a 3d aspect to it, making it a bit better. The buildings, trees, and roads are noticeably drawn without much effort. At some points, though, the graphics are so chalky and bad that you want to throw the game away.
Replay Value: (7/10)
Best part of the game. Although off the bad parts of the game, it is still fun to play through it again and see if you get a higher score. Usually beat 'em up games have good replay anyway..
Hardness factor: (1/10)
This is the EASIEST game I have EVER played. There are barely any levels in which none of them provide a challenge. I don't even think its possible to die because I have never had. It's plainly UN-IMAGINEABLY easy!
Overall: (4/10)
Yes, Battle Tanx does have some pretty bad points but when you pick it up for the first time its pure fun. I used to love that game so much..until I beat it. Sure, I played through it again, it was still pretty fun, but it felt as if it had lost its touch. It is a below average game because of all its faults, yes, but it is still fun to play.
Buy/Rent/Not? I highly recommend renting it first. Play through it twice or more, and see if you still like it. If you do, buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it.
