Mega Man Xtreme
Review by Skull Dragon
"Your average everyday Mega Man game"
Mega Man Xtreme is the first Mega Man X game for the game boy. It's basically alot like X1 and X2 on the Super Nintendo version but there are a few changes.Instead of fighting eight mavericks, you now only face four mavericks, unless your playing it on Extreme mode.Capcom basically took X1 and X2 from the SNES and combined them into one little Game Boy game.Although it wasn't no where near as good or fun as the SNES games,it still offered a few hours of entertainment. The plot has been mostly changed with the addition of a few new characters but I didn't like any of the new characters.Half of the mavericks from X1 and half of the mavericks from X2 appear together in this little combination and all of the old characters like Zero,Dr.Light and Dr.Cain return as well as Sigma.
Since this game was on a Game Boy,you can't expect great things.Nothing in this game is really that great. The control is much worse mainly because there aren't as many buttons so certain tasks such as the jump dash become frustrating to do and the fact that the Game Boy screen is much smaller makes it even more harder to move around.
Although X and the others don't look no where near as good in this game, the graphics overall, looked pretty good for a game boy but compared to the SNES,the graphics were awful looking. The levels and backgrounds of the game looked good but only if you're playing this game on a Game Boy Color.
The game offered much more challenge than the SNES games did but only really because the screen is much smaller so there isn't as much room to move around.Alot of the enemies attacks were really cheap and combined with the lousy control makes this game one of the hardest Mega Man games.
Due to the fact that this is a Game Boy game, you can't expect great sound. The different sounds in the game were awful to listen to and the music wasn't too bad.All of the music was from X1 and X2 for the SNES so you probably know what to expect with the music but overall,I recommend that you play this game with the volume all the way down.
Mega Man Xtreme was pretty fun for a Game Boy game, don't get me wrong but it's nothing compared to the SNES games but I couldn't really expect anything too good because it is the Game Boy afterall.I don't recommend anyone to actually buy this game unless you're an extreme Mega Man fan.
