Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors
Review by XxDarktlrxX
"Bleh! Why doesnt this DBZ game get its own commercial!"
''Ahh, finally a 5-day weekend to enjoy myself! I had $60 to my disposal and decided to spend it on Megaman Zero and Super Mario Advance 3.... well... those were the original plans... but you know... stuff happens and... like always their release date on this game was 100% innaccurate, and it came out early. As you probably guessed I bought this with utmost speed, leaving behind the other 2 selections without hesitation and walking out of the mall with my cheerful grin on as I skimmed through the manual. On the ride home I started to remember what happened last time I bought a game just because it had Dragonball Z, and shivered in the remembrance of Legacy of Goku, but it seems infogrames has made up for their past mistakes with this masterpiece!
Controls 7/10:
Not much to say about the controls, its mostly a strategy game, so its rare that you ever need them, but when you do, its really simplistic to the point in where the manual is nearly useless
Gameplay 9/10:
GREAT! In most cases you may think of the fast paced DBZ action dumbed down to a strategy game, which in it own ways it is, but thats not neccesarily a bad thing. Although realtime turn-based or a fighting game engine wouldv'e done this game alot better the current strategy battle system they have is just marvelous as they included all the elements of DBZ battle and managed not to make it all that much slow paced.
Storyline 10/10:
Great, an exact copy of the TV show! Unlike its predeccessor, Legacy of Goku, where they skipped everything making DBZ worthwhile, the creators of this havent skipped a thing! All the characters are there exactly as they were in the TV series and the story is the exact same! Not only have they grasped and inserted nearly every detail from the show but even added many extras giving it replay value as well as some overhead levels where you usually can find decks of cards to optimize your battle performance and make you one tough cookie!
Graphics 6/10:
Well, this couldv'e used help, at many times I found myself visualing in mind what I wouldv'e done to fix some of the sprites (Krillin and his 4 dots is a good example of what I wouldv'e helped) but nevertheless, its pretty good what theyv'e done with the GFX, especially considering the GBCs memory. Theyve captured every charater pretty good and had to add on that nintendo-ish big-head thing (which is starting to get annoying) but i guess its not really anything to complain about
Sound 7/10:
Is it possible to give over a 7 with good reasoning on a GBC game? The sounds are pretty basic and o.k. I wouldv'e given it a 5 or 6 but it wasnt annoying and I'm only partially in a bad mood right now, so heck, it can have the 7 ^_^
Music 8/10:
Pretty good, I never had to turn down my speakers!
Originality 10/10:
See any other games like this? Didnt think so.. This game is original to the point of getting to be orignal to the point of Persona, theres definetely no other like it..... but I'm in the US, so I cant really say that effectively
Overall 9/10:
Yeah, its a pretty good game, especially compared to the made for the money other DBZ games they toss out and laugh as they absorb money of the loving fans, but this one is well thought out and good! Currently #3 in my top GBC games (Yeup, right behind Dragon Warrior 3, and Blue Sphere, and tied with Megaman Xtreme2)
Replay Value 8/10:
Wow, that was only 12 hours?!?! Felt like a year, yeah, it seems pretty long, but definetely worth playing again! And the battle mode is GREAT!!!
''To buy or to rent''
Buy, there is no way you will beat this in the rental period, and if you do... youve got mad skills
