Review by Joseph Mostarda

"Should have stayed on the PC..."

Some games are never made to be portable. Especially games that are excellent on the PC. Like the Frogger series. I loved the PC games, so when I heard that Frogger 2 would make it onto GBC, I was ecstatic! Until I played it, that is...

Story 4/10- You're a male frog or a female frog, and you have to cross the street to get home. That's about it.

Graphics 6/10- Surprisingly slick visuals for such an average game. One of the better GBC games to date, the streets and cars are nicely drawn and colorful. Of course, good graphics NEVER equal a good game...

Gameplay 1/10- I really wanted to like Frogger 2. I really did. But the gameplay was just horrific. Basically, the control pad moves your frog across the street, and you must steer him or her clear of the cars. If you get hit by the car, you're done!

One nice feature of Frogger 2, though, are the somewhat varied levels. Instead of just crossing the street, you might cross a country dirt road or a road next to a lake. Also, you will collect jewels that are scattered on the road and the surrounding areas. Every 16 jewels will give you and extra life, and sadly, you WILL NEED those extra lives. The gameplay is so bland, it is actually rather difficult!!

One last note: the ''sage''. Every so often, you will find a wise frog who will tell you tips for your next level or the next road you will cross. This is nice because the cars move in different patterns for every level. Of course, you often never meet him, since he is always at the end of the level, and you are often killed!!

Sound 2/10- The blips and beeps of the cars just don't cut it. Frogger and Lilly, though, make nice ''wibbits'' and ''ribbits''.

Music 0/10- There was no music at all in this game! Shame; it could have really given the game a much better rating than what I honestly feel it deserves!

Verdict-

Story 4/10
Graphics 6/10
Gameplay 1/10
Sound 2/10
Music 0/10
Multiplayer 0/10
Replay Value 1/10

Pros:
Nice graphics.

Cons:
Almost impossible to beat, since you always die!
Horrific gameplay!
No music!
Just not fun!

Final Word- This was a dark chapter in the normally pleasing Frogger series. Unfortunately, Frogger just wasn't made for the portable systems. I suppose you could rent it if you want, but believe me, you will regret it. Overall, this package didn't deliver!
