"This would be an average game if the buttons would cooperate..."
This is my first review, so I thought I'd start with a simple game like Toy Story 2.
This is an okay platform game. It was quite easy, except for the horrible controls. The goal is to return woody, who has been kidnapped, back to the house before Andy arrives home.
Story:(3/10) Woody has been stolen and sent to Al's Toy Barn. It is up to you, Buzz Lightyear, to save him. I think the story follows the movie, though I've never actually seen the movie.
Graphics:(4/10) Buzz looks like an early Nintendo sprite. His face isn't even colored, but the graphics of Buzz's friends and the back ground of the levels are actually detailed. You can even read the names on books and boxes in some of the levels.
Gameplay:(2/10) It looks like they put more work into the background graphics than they did on the gameplay. It's basic platform gaming, but Buzz moves very slowly and it's hard to turn around. On many levels, I died because a monster came up and I couldn't turn around fast enough.
Controls:(1/10) This is where the game flaws. Buzz is a task to move. I found myself thinking about Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog while I was playing because they were much faster than Buzz. And Oh, the running. What a pain! You press a button while you're walking to run. And you press a button while you're running to perform a long jump. I fell off thousands of ledges because I was running and you have to turn around in advance, otherwise you'll fall off the ledge. And sometimes I'll be running and when I try to stop and turn around, I fly halfway across the platform or fall off, missing all the the other ledges below me until I fall to the bottom and by that time, the timer has run out and I have to start the level over. Not to mention the long jumping. You have to press the jump button when running like five seconds before you mean to jump or you'll do a super small jump and not make it to the next platform.
Music:(3/10) This is also not too good. They have pretty good music for the first few levels and then they just repeat that music for the rest of the game. You'd think they would have enough time to make different music for all the levels since they didn't spend hardly any time on the controls.
Replay Value:(1/10) Who would want to replay this game? Maybe someone who's addicted to toy story and can't get enough of Buzz. But they wouldn't even want to play it because Buzz looks like a 3D pencil drawing. There's coins to collect in each level, but all they give you is an extra life and that's if you collect them all.
Buy/Rent: If you want to try it out, rent it. But whatever you do, DON'T BUY IT. It can be beaten in a day. I got it for my birthday. I'm probably going to end up selling it.
Overall (not an average): (4/10) This game is definitely not going to be in my list of favorite games.
