"A Good Try For A Yugioh Game On GBC"

Yugioh: Dark Duel Stories was a decent try for a Yugioh game on the Game Boy Color. Considering this is supposedly a 16mb graphics system (really plays at 8) it turned out well. Let's analyze it.

CONTROLS- 10/10

Easy subject. Press ''A'' to select an option. Press ''B'' to go to a previous menu. During a duel ''Start'' pauses the game. That's it.

GAMEPLAY- 7/10

The Gameplay was pretty decent. I probably liked it more before I played Yugioh: Eternal Duelist Soul for Game Boy Advance. After that, it did not seem nearly as good. But you can't really compare the two, since one is for Game Boy Advance while the other one is for Game Boy Color. In this game I though one annoying part was the Duelist level. If your duelist level was not high enough, you could not play certain cards. Also, there's the amount of ''space'' a card can take up. Better cards require more space, holding your deck back from its full potential. Other than that, the gameplay is pretty good. It takes a while for each duel, but you get used to it.

GRAPHICS- 6/10

The graphics weren't that great. But we're talking about Game Boy Color here. Don't expect graphics of Game Boy Advance or even the old Super Nintendo, and this is for any GBC game. The makers are limited, and for being limited, the graphics weren't that bad. The card illistrations were decent enough. The character's faces could have been better, but that's no big deal. The graphics weren't horrendous. You could live with them. Do you think all time greats such as Mario Bros. had good graphic? I thought so.

SOUND- 7/10

The sound in Dark Duel Stories is also decent. It's not so bad that you have to put the volume on mute, but it's not the greatest in the world. Sound doesn't make up a game, but it's an extra. In this case, Konami did a pretty good job.

REPLAY VALUE- 7/10

I put down a 7 out of 10 for a reason. After you beat this game, the chances of you playing it through again are slim. But, it takes a while to beat the game. As I said before each duel is pretty long (with each duelist starting with 8000 life points). There are five or so rounds in this game, and you have to beat each duelist five times. It's not that short. That's why I gave this subject a 7 out of 10.

BUY or RENT

Some people might want to rent this game instead of buying it. I say that because some people don't like to spend a good amount of time on one duel, as may be the case in this game. You might want to rent it and get as far as you can get and then if you really like it, buy it. If you really like Yugioh, I think you'd enjoy this game, and you should get it.

OVERALL- 7/10

Overall, I give this one a 7 out of 10. If you like Yugioh, buy it. If you're not a huge fan, rent it, then if you like it, buy it. I hope my review is helpful to whoever is reading this. Have fun!
