Magi Nation
Review by Sim Kid
"The most overlooked game on the Gameboy!"
If you ask a random person about Magi Nation, they might say ''Magi what?'' or ''Never heard of it''. Some might remember the card game, it's not very popular, mainly because of other card games like Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, Harry Potter (Maybe Harry Potter does put Mind-control-curses inside his books, you don't see Lord of the Rings getting that kind of fame), or DBZ. But alot of people couldn't care less about a card game that's nearly dead or a really good gameboy game because they'd rather worship their beloved Matrix: Reloaded like it was some gift from god to mankind.
Graphics: 9/10
These are really good graphics. They're some of the best I've ever seen on the gameboy. Multi Coloured cabbage, people with Purple Hair, Tony Jones's baggy pants, Morag's extreme coolness, and Agram. The mugshots are really unusual and very detailed. The Dream Creatures are pretty cool too.
''Zet! I have a plan so Cunning you can brush your teeth with it!''
''YOU? Cunning?''
Sound: 9/10
The Sound is another high point. The battle theme changes based on where you are (Okay, so there are only 3 battle themes for 6 realms, and the 3rd one only plays in either Shadow Gysers or in the core), and the other music's pretty good too. I love the Boss Battle music. oooh! Same with Agram's battle music, as well as Korg and Zet's theme.
''Don't worry! I, Gorgor, will seal off the enterance to the Shadow gyser with this rock!''
*Rock falls on him*
''............... Ooh, the whole world is spinning! Wheeee!''
Control: 9/10
This was actually the first game I played where you don't need a special Item to run or to jump. (Yeah you need a special item to jump far, but you can still jump over stuff like benches and rocks) The battle controls are pretty smooth.
''Cloud Frond: Brightens teeth AND Fat free!''
Difficulty: 0/10
The Difficulty is the worst aspect of the game. Not only does it take energy to attack and energy to summon (Energy is like your life points), and you can only summon a finite number of dream creatures and you need to be at a high level to be able to beat some bosses. It may be short, but it's also pretty hard. I am NOT gonna tell you how many times it took to beat Zet.
''Look Korg! That's the stairs to Vash Naroom! Quick! Now's our chance to go in and cause some Disarray!''
''SHADDUP ZET! I'm in charge and I say we go in and cause Di....dis....ray!''
''.............''
Replay Value: 9/10
There is of course that secret once you beat Agram, the way you can start the game with all of your previous stats and dream creatures. It's alot easier because you can get the Core Ringshop and don't need to level up.
''Yessssss, sweeeet, delliccciousssss, tiiiiickeeettssssss...''
Overall: 9/10
This game is a very good one, you really want to play this game if you still have your gameboy colour. It's worth checking out, but it may be a little hard at first but you'll eventually catch onto it. It's very overlooked and underrated.
Buy or rent?
Buy of course! You can still find it in some places.
Best part:
Kicking Korg's Arse because he's so easy.
Worst part:
Zet.
