Dragon Warrior III
Review by Pokejedservo
"The BEST Dragon Warrior game ever made and THE best game for the GBC. Peroid."
Lets not beat around the bush shall we? This may not be the BEST game ever made but its by all means THE best re-make of a game ever made. If more re-mades were so impeccably made like this then I'm very sure that the re-make concept would be a lot more welcome in the VG industry that it already has. (Then again VG remakes are generally more welcomed then Cinematic re-makes but that isn't exactly saying much now isn't it?)
How did this game improve on the original you ask? Simple in just about every way imaginable. Granted the original DW3 wasn't my absolute fave of the series. (It was close to DW4 which was my former favorite until this came in.) The original was by all means very good, but what quality the original started this absolutely perfected it. All sorts of the new features such as Theif, The ''Personality'' system, the accesories and more are absolutely exceptional. And more mild differences such as how you get different dialougue from people whether your main character is a male or female and such are also quite the nice touches as well.
What makes this game a bit easier than its NES counterpart is the fact that the characters you control move a lot faster than what they would've in the original. (Then again one of the original's few more substantial flaws was the fact that the characters are awfully slow but its not like that here.) Those who like the ''Old English'' dialougue in the original may find it disappointing that they didn't do it here but its not all that bad of a mistake here. The more ''modernly structered'' english dialougue in here is by all means good. (And some may find it a intresting novelty that they didn't edit out the mild profanity in the game either nor the other more ''Adult'' content.)
The graphics & animation are quite nice and the Art Style of Akira ''DBZ/Chrono Trigger'' Toriyama is by all means deserving of its praise. But are there any flaws in the game worth truly mentioning? Yes but only a couple of minor ones. Maybe I just haven't been playing as a Jester long enough but they don't have as much Funny stuff during the battles unlike what they did in the NES original. And even though the ''Personality'' system is not JUST a stylized method of what stat points you get when you level up. It does occasionally alter the dialogue of certain people such as one of the Guardsmen nearby the King of Aliahan but it would've been nice if they did more with that and its not that hard to picture it being a bit more. But those are only mild flaws, after all nothings perfect.
So overall this is quite possibly THE best game for the GBC and if you ever wanted to any RPG game for any of the GB systems then this is defintely one of the most recommended ones.
+ The BEST RPG game ever made for the GBC
+ A rare remake that pratically improves upon the original in just about every way.
+ The ''Extra features'' that the NES original didn't have are very nice & quite welcomed
+ Credit & stronger showing of Akira ''Dragon Ball/DBZ/DBGT'' Toriyama
+ Despite that its easier than its NES counterpart, it still has a good amount of challenge.
- One could almost hope that there would be more to this ''Personality'' concept.
- The Jesters don't get to do as much of funny stuff as their NES counterparts A.K.A the ''Goof-offs'' did.
