"What? I'm NOT playing Zelda? Oh..."

I saw this game for a very cheap price at a recent yard sale. So, being the game addict I am, I bought it. After playing this, I can see why they were selling it, and once you are done reading this, you will too.

Story: 3

Not much of a story, and not original either. The Excalibur is lost, and it is up to you to look everywhere you can and find it, while beating off baddies who want you dead! The storyline does not flow like a storyline in a good game would be. The only quests you will be doing will not have anything to do with the game, it is only a sad attempt to make the game longer.

Graphics: 4

The backgrounds are pretty decent here, the backgrounds are well detailed and very well animated. But during the scrolling, they tend to get very choppy, and the hero and a lot of the enemies are only composed of two colors. Not even the Game Boy Advance could save these graphics! I really do not believe they could not have done better here.

Sound / Audio: 1

TURN IT OFF! TURN-IT-OFF! The sound has to be the worst part of the game. The sword your hero swings sounds just like your trousers being unzipped. When your zipper-sounding sword hits an enemy, it makes a ding noise. The other sound effects here don't sound any better than this. The background music is not much better. Some of the music is ok, but as you progress, you realize how bad a choice of songs they made. As if this is not bad enough, some of the instruments may even stop playing, which makes it worse for your ears. If you are going to play this game, keep the volume down.

Gameplay: 3

Hmm. You kill things with your zipper-sounding sword, you block things with your old reliable shield, special attacks...tools you use only once...hmm...this sounds just like Zelda! But why is it not as good as Zelda then? Here are a few reasons. First, the monsters just keep running around in random directions until you hit them, which in this case, they will start chasing you like a stalker. Second, the game worlds. They are so easy to complete, its just dumb. Third, if you don't get an item in the exact order, it won't be there again. Then there is Merlin. He could beat everything in 3 seconds. But he makes you do everything for him. Who knows why? The puzzles were not that hard really, but made harder by the horrible controls. If you fall down you have to start over. But at least they let you save! But no, you have to pay 30 gold to save, so if you got no money, you can't save so if you die you start from where you last saved. These things and more make a bad game horribly worse.

Challenge: 7

The bosses here were either stupidly easy or stupidly hard. Also the enemies act like idiots until you hit them, then they ruthlessly attack you. Then the puzzles. They would not be so bad if it was not for the fact that this game has horrible controls. If you accidentally fall down into a hole or something like that, you have to start over again, which gets annoying after the first 10 times.

Replayability: 3

If you seriously enjoy playing this game, then you can go back and beat the game without collecting any heart containers, but that is the only replayability in this game.

Buy or Rent?:

Do not buy this game, unless you are a hardcore Zelda fan, and even then do not spend more than 2 dollars on it. Even though I do not know why anyone would want this game.

Overall: 3
